Default Stayfast canvas or German?

I'm considering ordering a convertible top boot cover from eBay. One is made with stayfast canvas for approx $350. The other is made with German canvas for approx $400. I'm unsure of which to go with. Can someone help me to determine of it would be worth spending $50 more for the German canvas? Thanks in advance.

I've had tops and boots replaced over the years. I have only purchased German. The way it was explained to me was the exterior canvas is the same the "crows feet" backing is what makes the German canvas original to the car. It's supposedly more durable as well. So it has always been my thought process to stay with factory like material. I've never used Stayfast. The prevailing wisdom is German is better. BOL

I'm changing my canvas also. I prefer german "Sonnenland" canvas. It's a cabrio canvas factory in Germany, it's material was used and is using by Porsche (and BMW, Mercedes, Audi).

However the Sonnanland top, original cut but no OEM Porsche cost about EUR 740 + VAT. Its about $1.000 in Germany.

Thanks for the help everyone. I think I will go with the German canvas.

beagling - I sent the company you posted an email to see if they sell the boot cover. Their prices do seem very good. Thanks.

Don't know if they sell the boot but would be curious to know. PLease let us know.

I did get the headliner from AutoTopsDirect too and interstingly enough it had a GaaH packing slip. GaaH does sell the boot cover but it seems expensive at $825

I need a new top for my 2001 cab. Looking at autotopsdirect for $529. How was your experience with company and quality?

Stayfast material is more elastic and will stretch out over time, it also fades and Haartz/Sonnenland doesn't stretch out or fade as quickly.
There are companies out there that offer "German Canvas" that are actually very deceptive copies made in places like China ... this material is the worst of all so Caveat Emptor.

Just an update seeing how this thread was revisited. I bought the German canvas boot cover. Very nice, durable material and very heavyweight. It made me realize the PO that replaced my top bought the cheaper material and when I replace it, I will be going with the German canvas. Worth the extra $$ in my opinion.

Yes, I found it VERY interesting to see the two types of materials together. For me, just having them in my hand told the whole story ... there's nothing like the real deal.
