Default Escalade versus 993...

Stopped off to fetch the mail at the end of our road this afternoon, and a neighbor reversed her Escalade into my one-year old turbo front bumper. No-one was hurt, but the bumper is punctured and scratched, the left fog light is cracked - that seems to be the extent of the damage at a superficial (and annoyed) glance. I guess I'll be ordering some new parts from Sunset soon...

The lady didn't even have a valid drivers license, let alone proximity radar...

Sorry to hear, Ruben.

Did you call the police to issue a ticket by any chance? Here's a lesson I learned a long time ago the hard way. I was considering making a right turn on red at a busy intersection with my Subaru Legacy. As I got closer to the corner, I realized the oncoming traffic was too close so I stopped. Well, the guy behind was not paying attention, assumed I would proceed, and clipped my left rear bumper/quarter panel to some $3500 damage. No cops were around and cell phones were in their infancy. I exchanged information with the other driver, and then proceeded to file an accident report with my local police department. Well, when my insurance company contacted the insurance company of the guy who hit me, the driver had reported that I backed into him! Since no cops were at the scene and no tickets were issued, it was "he said, she said". I've instructed my kids to summon the police if they get hit and it has already paid off.

I had a doofus drive into my front last year - she was coming out of an alley and didn't look both ways. It turned out to just be superficial but I had the exact same damage - new bumper and fog light.

OK - this was a funny observation...

I thought they also came stock with side mirrors & a rear view mirror?

If you had Fister STG III's she would have heard you.

Seriously, sorry it happened! If she didn't have insurance (doubtful if no license) then you will have to claim it on your "uninsured motorist" insurance. They make you pay your deductible, or part of it.

Very sorry to hear about this mishap. Women and SUVs. What is one to do? Stating the obvious...As you only have superficial damage one hopes you didn't file an insurance or police report. This annoying incident will look like much more on a carfax report. In any event ... Life is full of minor annoyances and few matters of real consequence.

Thanks for all the moral (and legal) support, fellow Rennlisters.

The good news (apart from nobody being injured) is that the Escalade driver is insured (State Farm). I did call the police, who duly came and took an accident report.

Oh, and the joke about the felled trees in the background was not far off the mark: A different neighbor - an elderly gentleman in a BMW - torpedoed a telephone pole on our street a year or so ago. He emerged shaken, but unharmed. The pole did not fare so well. Dangerous 'hood, clearly.

I have already started to research the cost of replacing the front bumper cover and fog lights (only one is cracked, but I will insist on the other one being replaced also). Any other suggestions?

Part of me is tempted to go back to a 'stock' but European bumper. The Turbo cover is aggressive (I like), but the original cover is also very classic (old school) and clean - especially as more and more cars have large 'nostrils' in their front grilles these days. Feel free to weigh in with your opinions.

P.S: In response to the posting above ("one hopes you didn't file an insurance or police report. This annoying incident will look like much more on a carfax report") - I am not really concerned about CarFax. I have owned this 993 virtually from new, and she's a keeper.
