I have had many local owners here who regularly drive their cars once a month or even less - and find their batteries either weak or flat enough so they cannot turn the engine over. A few years of those sort of discharges and the battery starts to have less capacity and eventually becomes toast. I will check the levels on many of them, they are usually either at the top or very close.
It's good that you have gotten very long life out of your batteries, but how often and how they are used, storage temperatures, charge levels and are trickle chargers also used are also important parameter in that statement.

My car was a daily driver and my mother's car was used maybe once a week, if that. And her battery lasted a bit longer.
Forgot to mention, my car sat 5 to 6 weeks a year while on my motorcycle tours. Not plugged into anything.
In both cases, factory fit Panasonic batteries.
In both cases, vehicle charging systems that were spot on.
Never were any of them on a battery charger or maintainer.
High current cables were maintained.

Bet your mom's car did not have much background current draw, so even a week was not a big deal. I have to measure the one on the 993, that alarm system and other components seems to need a fair amount of juice ....

On my 993, 22 mA alarm not set.
With the alarm set, the flashing LEDs throw things off a bit.
