Default How long does the 1995 Porsche 993 engines last?

First of all thanks to all who replied to my last post about
irregular reving. Being a new Porsche owner its helpful to have
feedback.

I have a 1995 Porsche 993 c2.
I have 95 000 miles on the engine and was just wondering
if anyone know what the life expectancy is for these engines is.
Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Absent owner neglect/abuse, basically forever. Now, the valve guides will be shot in the 120-150K range, but for a street engine until you get into the one-quart-or-more-every-thousand-miles of oil consumption you'll be fine.

What a great reply.

There are some cars with hundreds of thousands of miles on them.
Or they will last forever if you never drive it.

Thats an excellent and valid question,......

Engine longevity really depends on several factors that include maintenance intervals, operating temperatures, and what oil is used.

Typically, most of these need guides around the 100K mark, however oil consumption is the best indicator of when that service is required. I tell people that when one is using a quart every 800 miles, its time to fix it or park it. The rest of the motor is pretty darned durable.

I've seen several go 150K without needing anything provided they are well maintained. In short, engine longevity is truly in your hands,.....

What's involved in changing the valve guides ?
Cost and time needed.
What happens if you don't fix ?
What changes will you see if you fix ?
TIA

Oil leaks are another issue. At some point, you might detect that your car is losing oil.

112,921 miles, no oil leaks or valve guide issues here, (apart from a couple of small leaks from the cam chain covers, which I don't care about). The engine's never been apart. I have heard of 993 engines in the high 100s that have never been apart.

Mine is a race car. It had over 110K on it when I rebuilt it. It had 14 to 16% leakdown before we tore it down and it seemed way down on power. It really was not burning too much oil but I changed it pretty frequently.
Cervelli said when he tore it down that it looked like it had led a very easy life other than some normal wear that was giving me my poor leak down. Bottom end was perfect. For street use it would have gone a while longer I suspect.

1995 C2 changed to a club racer around 78,000 miles. Stock engine but short gears and limited slip added, as well as the race suspension.
I am at about 90,000 miles now, the last 12,000 or so at instructor run group speeds DE. I take good care of the engine and don't push for that last 5% of performance.
I hope my car and I have a long and happy life together.

104K miles, no issues other than a couple of leaks from the usual gasket suspects. Leakdown numbers were in the 1-3% range when I bought it 3K miles ago. I have to add a quart every 2K miles or so and just did an oil analysis, the results were very positive. maintenance is key.
