The '95's fall apart really early, you're lucky you've gotten this far with it now.

J/K, just giving back to our '95 friends that like to pick on the rest of us over the OBDII issue......

Richardew has 270,000+ on his 993---no engine rebuilt.

So I will agree a lot of people will be dead or unable to drive before they will ever know how long a 993 engine lasts.

Im at 72,xxx and no oil burning or leaking---very solid car.

Don't worry about it. Do a search and check out the thread of how many owners there are with over 100,000 miles and no top end re-build. There are many and just think of all the 993 owners out there that don't post here who have the same high mileage and no top end re-build. Enjoy your ride, and again, don't worry about it. Just maintain it and hopefully the prior owner did the same.

How long does the 1995 Porsche 993 engines last?

How long is a piece of string?

it's infinitely variable.

so what you're saying is that your vehicle has never consumed an ounce of oil in any way?

I have 104,500 on my 95 and use about 0.5 qt/ 1000 miles and still running strong. Regular maintenance like oil changes are cheap insurance against premature failure.

96 55k. Oil Changes on the 5k's. Maybe 1-2 quarts between changes.

Lets just stop talking about all the potential bad, and bask in the all the goodness :-)

Compared to other cars with less miles. It doesnt feel sluggish and the powerband is smooth and fast. How else would you compare it.

i guess it depends how many 993s you've driven. I find the butt dyno to be pretty unreliable.

That is a good question, what if you keep adding oil, what happens?
Would the oil burning ruined your cats? What are the downside of deferring that work. Just curious.

Thanks.

Yes, oil burning can ruin the cats and oxygen sensor(s). Also, one of the ways valves cool is by transferring heat to the valve guide. If there is a loose fit between the valve guide and valve, the valve can overheat and fail (break). If this happens, and the valve head falls into the combustion chamber, it could do lots of damage to the engine.

Cheers,
Joe

no, he shouldn't.

I'm just trying to get people to THINK instead of just blindly following whatever they've heard.

You say your car pulls hard...how do you know? Butt dynos are unreliable, so if you're basing your judgment of your engine's health on how fast it feels, you may not be correct.

My car pulls hard compared to a bullet-proof vest with a live axle stitched into the lining. Other than that, it's a slug.

+1 on Falcondriver's Crome comment. Too lazy to look for my face palm jpegs.
