Radio tuning goes crazy

Radio tuning goes crazy
Ok...did a search, couldn't find this one. Stock Porsche radio. When I push button 3, it is set to tune to 98.1, and the radio stops, and various numbers on the display flashes, and no sound. Tune to any other preset, or even just go up to around 99.0, and everything is fine. Below 98 is fine. If I scan through 98, same thing, goes crazy. Only on Fm, and only around 98.0. Any other frequency is fine. Cleaned contacts, no help. Any ideas besides not listening to that frequency??? Maybe I'm crazy. Thanks..layne

One would need the radio schematic, an electroinics lab and some debug skills to tackle this, if my hypothesis is correct. You could bring the radio somewhere for repair, stop listening to those affected channels, or replace the radio.

Best place to get a stock radio???? Would it be the entire unit, or just the face plate security part.....
It is so annoying, because the one frequency is my favorite sports station!!!!!!!!!
Anyone have a stock radio for sale??? Thanks.......

I can offer no help here except to say that coincidentally mine started doing the exact same thing with button one tuned to 90.7. I have not tried to solve it yet.
keep posted on what you learn.

Good to know that I am not myself crazy, and at least someone else has this problem. I really don't know where to head from here. Just annoying that it is on my sports station. I want to keep everything stock, including the radio, but don't want to pull the radio if it is a "faceplate" issue...???
I really am at a loss as to where to head from here!!!!!!!!!!! Help!!!!!! Bugs the crud out of me...!!!!

Mine was recently disconnected at the battery for some work and storage and had to reenter the code. Was anything similar with you? Perhaps disconnect/reconnect renenter code and research for local stations might have some effect. Never sure why but the only temporal relationship for me was recent disconnect.

Maybe........I had my battery out a few weeks ago......and had to put the code back in....but, not within a few days of this happening....I was driving and punched the button...and bam...gone......!!!! I am going to disconnect tonight, reset the radio code, and see what happens.......

Best of luck with the "reset" approach... it's amazing how many time a reset fixes glitches in electronics.
If that doesn't work, a replacement CDR-210 (assuming that's what you mean by stock) should be pretty easy to come by around here, or on ebay. Many have swapped them out for CDR-220's. This might also be a good time to consider an upgrade... if you want i-pod capabilities, there are a number of options that will accommodate that - including, to a limited extent, the CDR-220. Those were also stock in 996's and 986's so there are plenty around and look quite "stock" in the 993...there are some issues with the viewing angle in the 993 for those, so search old threads for details.

Hopefully the reset will work but if not I think the best route will be to replace the whole unit. I doubt it's a faceplate issue and even if it is you'll probably find 210 faceplates hard to come by as that unit is long out of production. Start trolling Ebay and you'll likley see an old unit for sale. Alternatively, as PNog mentioned consider an upgrade to the 220. They look completely stock but are better, more modern units. They're also an easy DIY install with lots of info on here on how to do it.
