POR-15 on a 993's body
Hi all
I was wondering if anyone has used POR-15 on their 993? I have tried it twice now, both with similarly disappointing results
I have a small patch of rust on the lower front l/h wing and my plan was to por-15 it to protect it and stop the rust getting any worse before I have a chance to hand it over to a paintshop. However, my first application of por-15 started bubbling and lifting within a few weeks. I had purchased the starter kit and followed the instructions to the letter all apart from one thing - it was only a couple of degrees outside so probably not the best for paint application. Oh well I thought I've only got myself to blame so I stripped it all back again and started from scratch once the weather had warmed up to about 20 degrees. I used the marine clean and then the metal ready and then finally brushed on a couple of thin coatings of the paint making sure each coat had gone tacky before applying the next. I thought I'd been successful as it lasted a bit longer but a few weeks afterwards it started bubbling and lifting off.
I'm using the grey coloured paint, btw, but I don't think it's any different chemically to the black?
I read on the instructions that it should be suitable for galvanised metal as long as metal ready is used. Has anyone else used this on their 993 and if so what were the results? I know it should be top-coated, but the instructions say that if it's not it's only the appearance that will deteriorate and not the actual quality of the coating/protection. I'm not really bothered what it looks like for now as it will ultimately get painted over or stripped off again when a paintshop handles the issue. I just want to stop the few bits of rust from getting any worse.
Many thanks
Stu

Never tried POR-15, but have used Loctite Extend on other vehicles with great results. No affiliation.

I've used many of these "miracle" rust products on my old truck. The most disappointing was por 15; peels and requires special primers to overcoat.
My preferences: Rust Bullet or Eastwood products.

ive used it many times, recently on my 993 in/around the battery tray. on my delorean, I did the lower suspension parts, front sway ( which gets pelted with rocks) and some touch ups on the frame.
