Default Sport seats question

I'm curious about what percentage of 993s were built with sport seats. I doubt anyone is likely to have an official answer but your ballpark quesstimate would be appreciated.

Also I'm guessing they were more often seen on the widebody models than on the narrow body cars. Is that the case? If so, why.

Was there any year that had more than other years?

Input from anyone on this forum is appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't think body style matters. I had them in my targa and have seen them in more nb than wb.

The sport seats were a no cost option on the 4S and turbo so I'd think they would be more common on those cars.

Overall based on what I've seen about 15-20% of the cars came with sport seats. I could be way off, but again, this is just my observation.

Are you sure on that? I have seen numerous turbos without them and I sold mine to a guy with a turbo. I also looked on eBay and only 1 turbo 993 of the 10 listed has sport seats .

Not denying your statement ... Just an observation .

We are talking sport hardbacks right ?

Yeah, I'm sure. Which is not to say that every other C4S or turbo had them, just that as a no cost option, they would be more common than on NB or cabs. Sorry if you found my statement misleading.

Certainly seem more prevalent on Turbos but I would think that the overall % would be less than 5% of all 993s had hard back sport seats.

I agree with the overall 15-20% estimate and perhaps a slightly higher percentage in the WB models. I'm not sure in 1996-98, the sport seat was perceived as a "better" choice when compared to say, "supple leather," which I also see a lot of in WB cars. I would also guess that the majority of 993's weren't ordered by the customer but rather by the dealer and we all know the limited insight most dealers have.

There is currently a turbo S on ebay...without sport seats; so even at that level not everyone perceived them as better back then.

.. Plus, they weren't very expensive when you paid for them, only $365 per seat in 1998, but America had been on their "high fructose corn syrup diet" for 30 years and the body-mass demographics had definitely shifted 'south' at that point so, not many American buyers could actually fit in them

Surprised you and ilko think the % is that high. I would have thought closer to 5%. I must be running in the wrong circles.

Thanks all for the input.
