I didn't mean for my post to sound like the VIN # was a big deal. Just looking at the cool factor if it was one of the last 25 or 50 air cooled cars built.
I see #1339 as the last car posted on the list. The car I am looking at is #1300. Build month 12/97.

Certainly in the last 100 I would think but unless it is the last one I can't see how it would possibly matter other than as a curiosity. Not being critical...just have seen no evidence that it affects anything material.

The "vinyl interior" thing is new to me. Does anyone happen to have a window sticker handy to tell us how much leather cost? Or was standard leather included in the "Comfort Seats" line item?

Unless it was a special order, I'd be very surprised if there are any vinyl seat 993s in the U.S. 100% of the cars I've seen have Comfort Seats or Supple Leather or Sport Seats.

Rare birds, like 16" wheels.

All model Year 98 cars sold by Porsche of North America came off the factory production line in Dec 97, the production line was then converted 1/98 to produce 996's. Final run 993's off the line will have a 12/97 build date on the VIN label including my CarreraS (1333) second to last on the "Post Your VIN" which of course isn't complete.

My c2s has "big reds" but they are painted black to keep the stealth look. Maybe I'm not cool.

To be honest, it all depends on what you like and what you can find. You'll gravitate toward one or the other naturally so go with that one.

I can only say that when I decided to buy a 993 I looked at C2, C2S, C4S and Turbo. After considering everything I opted for the C2 for a few reasons. One was less working parts = less possibility of problems and maintenance, second was the body style was just perfect. I thought the wider body was just too much while the standard wide body was just perfect. Just my take on the matter.

When I was shopping for our 2nd Porsche it was clear that it will be a WB if I go with a 993. We also looked into a 964 as I admire the earlier form compare to 993. However, we ended up with w C4S. We weren't looking for a garage queen and were planning to drive the car. So holding the value was less important than having fun with. When we started to check on C4S vs. C2S we realized that the C4S had more options included than the C2S. In addition there were the better breaks and other things which came with the TT which the C2S didn't have. Also, there are more C4S with full leather equipped that C2S. As for the driving, yes the all-wheel system drives different than the C2. We have the comparison every time when we both on the road. I have to admit that I drive faster with more safety with the C4S when we driving small winding roads. You just know that you can push more before the limit comes. Saying that, we are not in to racing. A small winding road gives us more thrills than a race track.

So, depending what you looking for you can prefer the one or another. For me, not planning to sell the car soon and driving it whenever I can the C4S was the one to go with.
