Drive it short distances...Drive it long distances...Drive it every chance you get...Don't wait and don't rationalize...If you want a 993, get a good one and drive it...Sooner is better than later....(Yes, mine is my DD).

I swear I had this reply in mind before I saw the post above...

Life is short, drive a 993.

(D/D here as well, from 101,900 miles to 128,200 in the past two years.)

As long as you warm up the car properly every time you use it, you should be golden. After all, its a Porsche, they are well built and will do beautifully long term. I use mine every day, come rain or shine!

Life's short. Enjoy your 993...or when you die, I can guarantee you somebody else will.

this and more...

My C4S is my DD in nice months. I got it last May, and drove till crap started getting put on the roads in mid November. My last commute was 30+ minutes, for the next 2 years, it'll be less than 10 minutes.

That being said, regardless of the outside temp, I start up and let idle for a minimun of 10-15 minutes everything I have ever owned. If I do that at both ends of my 10 minute commute, it'll be almost 30 minutes of run time. I'm not real worried.

I suggest driving it regardless of distance, purpose, or need.

Using my 993 as my DD absolutely guarantees me two joyous moments per day...driving to work, and driving home.

God I love that car.

Spring can't come soon enough here.

The car is up to the task. Just make sure you get the oil warm.
So that was you on the 405 last week.

I use mine as a DD. It puts me in a good mood. You bought it to drive so drive it.

This is a well made piece of machinery; not a piece of Baccaret Crystal that one takes out for dinner with Grandma.

Smile Daily Driver 1995 Cab....

I use my 993 cab for a daily driver having shifted over a few years ago from my 2003 C4S, which I put 70,000 miles on as my previous daily....before selling it, as I was out of warranty, which was needed for that car, i.e. IMS ticking time bomb..

I use snow tires on separate rims from December 1 to April 1st each year....great in the snow........

Only wish the 993 was a Carrera 4, even better handling in poor weather....

Car has been solid, no issues except regular maintenance......love the 993....

Start mine in the cold; let the engine go through it's surge cycle then drive off, but careful not to rev over 2500 or so; if the trans is stiff from the cold I shift gently until it loosens up.
By the time I get where I am going on short trips I start to get some cabin heat, and maybe a little oil temp.

15 years, counting on 15 more.

Thanks to everyone. I am in. End of story. I'll start him up, let him him warm up, and drive him every day. Groovy.

Other than 10 seconds to get things circulating, don't let it sit to warm up...Start it, let the idle settle down, and then drive off...It'll warm up as you drive.

Thanks. I am just reading Adian Streather's "The Essential Buyers Guide Porsche 911 (933). All good. Learning some good things. It's got me geared up for doing the initial 15 min check.

Don't warm it up idling in the driveway. Warm it up by putting on your seat belt first and immediately driving. Under 3K first, then 4K, then close to red line once per trip. However, I'm almost certain that you still won't get it warmed up on this 8 mile route.

I'd use a Leaf...or a bicycle

Mine has been a DD since purchase in 2002, during which time it's covered 55K miles. Although I'm now a consultant and work from home, most of the time my daily commute was 20-25 minutes. The trip was mostly on back roads and just enough to reach operating temperature. Summer, winter, snow, rain, whatever. Can't think of a better way to start/end the work day.
