Smile Aural (Your Ears) Candy

My new Fabspeed X pipe, 200 cell cat combo seemed to give the car a little bit more power. The true test will be at Willow at the end of April. Bu then I will have my new plug wires on and new Hoosiers...with a set of new NT-01s as practice tires.

The sound on the new exhaust, let me babble on again. It is like no other exhaust combo I have had on the car. I have had in the past nearly every muffler system you can think of:
  • B&B Muffllers
  • Robin Sun's RSR mufflers
  • Porsche Motorsound option mufflers
  • Fabspeed Cat bypass to RSR mufflers
  • FD Motorsport Stage III Mufflers
  • Fabspeed SuperCup mufflers and the stock cat
  • Fabspeed X pipes/200 cell cats into FD Motorsport Stage mufflers
The B&Bs were intolerable with a 3000 RPM drone. I replaced these with RSRs. The rest of the mufflers mentioned were just fine. But the Fabspeed X pipes in the 200 cell cats into FD Motorsports mufflers, out of this world. If I were to demo this set up to any sporting minded 993 guy, they'd buy my set up....I also drove the car into town to get gas, and being that I have quite a bit of the sound deadening out of the car, the noise was fine, no 3000 RPM drone. This would be a great street set up.

The ironic thing, the Porsche 993 with stock mufflers sounds nearly anemic, with X pipes/200 cell cats and FD Motorsports Stage 1 mufflers, what an incredible sound is there for the asking. In a way the idle sound is like a pushrod Mustang 302 or a Chevy 350 with a good cam. The crack and pop on heel and toe down shifts...for a moment I though I was driving a Cup Car.

One other thing, Fabspeed manages to ship FedEx very inexpensively. Their customer service is awesome. No affiliation, just love their products. What I have now is the best of all possible worlds.

Smile No spare parts...

Have sold all the previous muffler systems. I'll do a sound clip as soon as I figure out how to do it...

Martin, how does it compare to FD stage III in terms of tone at idle, cruising, and WOT?

The 200 Cell cats and X pipe seem to have created some incredible snap, crackle and pops on down shift...the over all sound level appears to be close to the car with stock cats and the FD Motorsport Stage III.

I was hoping before I drove the car that it would be a little quieter...after hearing it, driving the car, I welcome the sound. If it is too loud at Laguna Seca, I'll try adding "Fangs" a la Super Cups. If that doesn't work, I'll reinstall the stock cats just for this one event...that's how much I love the new sound...intoxicating!

Now it is time for a drink!!!
