Default 993 coupe vs cab?

Seriously looking at moving from 997 C2S coupe to a 993 cab. I love the 993 but coupe vs cab? Thoughts anyone?

now that is different!

generally the 993 coupe is beautiful. The cab is only for those who absolutely have to have a drop top and are willing to sacrifice the classic body lines to do it......

I would do a 997 cabrio if you gotta have rag top.
I would do 993 if looking for a hot coupe. (or GT3 )

I purposely looked for a cab. I think the body lines are still intact and still beautiful. There's nothing better than a hot summer late night drive with the top down. I love my cab.

+1

(there's a reason approx 75% of 993's for sale are either cabs or tips and that coupes demand a premium over cabs)

Go targa and get the best of both worlds! And the best thing is that your hair piece will not fly off.

Wow, it sure seems like I have seen a lot of folks going from a 997 to a 993 recently. Makes me wonder if my 997 lust should be rethought.

As for your question, it is purely a personal choice. I don't think anyone here can convince you that one is better than the other...it's purely subjective.

I think the reason for the change from 997 into 993 is a move for more metal and drama. The 997 is a great car but it's got a fair amount of plastic in it, despite the full leather.

I like my cab. However, the lines of the Coupe (in particular wide body) look better. This is why I have both and it would be very difficult for me to part with one ...

The roofline of the coupe is a must have for me in a 993. With the windows and sunroof open, I feel pretty connected to the elements that I don't ever wish I had a cab.

No disrespect to the cab, just not my choice.

Coupes are beautiful to look at. Cabs are beautiful to drive.

It all boils down on what are you'll be doing with your car the most.

Other reason's why no Cab for me:

Sun baking; too hot and always dusty inside.

When coming on to an area of construction, you'll get a full load of dust from the cars in front with nothing else to do but grin and bear it.

One can quickly close a sun roof.

Experience counts. Had one in younger years but never again.

It really is personal preference. I honestly like both, and if I had the means, I would have one of each.

my previous 911 was an SC Targa, so I had kind of developed the desire for something different, and got a coupe.

I loved my Targa when I first got it, and ble2011 has it spot on, nothing like a drive in the summer evening in an open top. It is also quite nice even on cold nights with the heater blasting!

After 10+ years with the Targa, I got tired of taking the top off and on, and when it was on, it squeeked and rattled and at high speed, the wind noise was pretty bad.

I love my coupe now, but maybe I will get a cab when I grow tired of it.

Both coupe and cab have their benefits.
If you have any desire to track, go coupe.

Well put. I have had both. Love my coupe and dearly miss my cab. It is a give and take thing. If my garage was bigger, I would have both.

In addition to all of the maintenance concerns for both body styles, with the cab you get more complexity: motors, relays, holes in the cloth, plastic rear window etc. I'd like to think that I've had my last plastic rear window on my Miata. A poor design, IMO. For the rear window alone, if I wanted a cab, I would only look at '02(?) and up glass window 996/7 or Boxster, but that's just my peeve.
