possible 98 c4s purchase....or 96?
Well after my relentless.....almost borderline obsession of searching,I think i'm ready to pull the trigger.Only problem is that i'm really torn and i've got it narrowed down to just a few. All are with a days drive and all in the 40's.i'm really leaning towrds 2 98 c4s that are around 48k with ironically 48k miles. The other 2 are 96 c4s are 42k with around 60k.My question is from all my searching it doesn't really seem to be that the 98's are worth (atleast right now in terms of pricing)anymore than 96 or 97's.The higher mileage and less expensive 96's actually appeal to me alittle more since i WILL be driving it and my inital cost is much less, plus i don't think i'd be AS paranoid about em since it'd be more of a drivers car. On the other hand though the 98's i think would maybe worth more down the road and since they are the last year and less were imported that year.ofcoarse since i will be driving them they could break 50k in a year or so after purchase. Sooooo do i pop for the extra $6k for the 98's and worry a little more about as a investment....or save some coin and just enjoy it and hope for the best when Or if i have to sale it.Sorry to be long winded, just excited..........and nervousthanks

Conventional wisdom (assuming all things being equal) states that buying the best condition latest model year you can afford is the way to go. That said, I would have no hesitation picking out an older model year 993 with a solid maintenance history (with attractive mods on it) over a later year with worse overall condition or suspect history.
As mentioned earlier, don't get hung up on the pragmatics of investment value -these cars are a blast to drive - that's where their true 'investment value' sits...
Cheers!

buy which ever is you favorite combination of exterior/interior color, and options. provided the PPI checks out..go with the prettiest one.
Cars are not investments, especially if you plan on driving it.
The season is fast approaching, much better to be enjoying the car...than still looking for it.
Good luck!

i think i may have been alittle misleading when i said "investment",i know that a car is not an investment. All I was saying is when it does come to re-sale,did anyone think that in time the 98's may be a little more desirable.I'm sure that not everyone here purchased their car to drive it and stack miles on it with no regard of re-sale.Believe me...i can't wait to ENJOY the car and drive it the way it was intended for.In terms of color that's kinda killing me too......2 are polar silver with blck int, ones black on black, and ones dark blue with light gry

Be sure you test drive a 993TT before you pull the trigger on the C4S. C4S is a nice car, but for almost the same money, you get 100HP more, with very little downside.

Go for the lowest mileage because that is what holds value in time.
However, make sure you also pick the car with the color and options you desire.
(just because a car may have low miles, you shouldnt end up buying a "pink" car)
And most importantly, the overall condition.
The love and care from previous owner is always a factor.

Yeah thats what i was thinking,THere's actually a guards red that's somewhat local and it's gorgeous, but i just can't do it.love red cars just can't see myself owning one.In terms of a tt i really can't afford the extra coin, plus i'll still have my s4 avant 6mt thats somewhere around 350hp

I drove a bunch, and picked the one in the best mechanical shape/price spot. Color wasn't a big deal to me, or rather became less of one.
Initially I wanted Aventurine Green or Arena Red, but there weren't that many to choose from. The only AG one I found had a questionable mechanical history, so I passed. I wasn't crazy about black, as I have had several black cars before, but that is what I ended up with. sure it is a PITA to keep clean, but I have accepted it. IT DOES LOOK GREAT when it IS clean though.
With regards to a TT, there is the added cost of maintenance as well, not to discourage anyone, but there is more than just the price of admittance. There IS the added fun factor though.

the only advantage a non-96 has IMO is the ability to more easily "chip" the ECU if you choose to go down that path.
that and the ignition key switch light that most 97s seem to have.....................
