Default CR-1 wire harness pinouts

Yup, already searched the forums (993/964) and no luck finding the pinout definitions for a CR-1. Google has come up dry too.

Need to understand the pinouts from my CR-1 wiring harness to make the proper connections to a CDR-220. The Amp/speaker plug needs to be "converted", but I am not sure what to map to what. 10-pin plug with 6 used pins (on the left in photo).

I have found the CDR-220 pinouts.

Anyone having done this before, can you share / comment on the CR-1 harness pinouts?

Keep us posted on what you find. This is something I've been thinking of doing. How similar would a 210 be to a 220?

Funny you should ask, I have just finished replacing my CR1 unit.
My car did not have the hi fi system. Nor did I install an amp.
There were only two plugs used when I removed the stereo.
One was for the front and rear speakers, and the second plug was to power the radion itself. I installed a JVC unit I purchase from fellow rennlister.
On my jvc, all the wires were color coded to the original stero.
I unplugged the two plugs and cut the wires so I could reuse the original plugs.
Very easy install.
The plug with the 8 wires are the speakers.
rear right purple + purple/black -
left rear green + green/black -
right front gray + gray/black -
left front white + white/black -
The second plug has four wires
yellow goes to constant 12 v source
red goes to 12 volt source-only when the igntion is on
black is ground
last one is for illumunation, cant remember the color, but is the last wire on the plug.
If you have any questions pm me your phone I can try to help.
I installed infinty components and 4x6 rear speakers. Big difference from the original stereo.
I dont really see the need for an amp with my set up.

Hope this helps you.

Default Making Progress . . . I think

Al,

Thanks for the detail / input.

So far this is what I have worked out.

And over in the UK I found a source for this cable, which may get me close to not having to splice the 993 harness.

Cut the wires close to the original radio and splice the new radio and speaker wires to those plugs. Once you do that all you have to do is re connect the plugs to the original wire harness plugs and you are good to go.

Default CR-1 Harness

Here is an image of the CR-1 harness (A, B, and C block) with the Anti-theft plug too. It appears either B-block is used for 4-speaker set up or C-block is used for Amp (Nokia HiFi Premium sound option), but not both.

The 993 wiring harness, my first image in this thread, may vary depending on which option the car came with from the factory.

So where does the CD changer plug into, if you have one?

Al,

Thanks for the reply. It may come to that, but I was trying (for posterity) not to cut the CR-1 wires or splice the 993 harness. Was looking for a plug to plug converter, but that 10-pin plug seem to be an odd ball / one off connector.

Cheers,
Kevin

Default CD connection

Alex,

I think (I do not have the CD Player option) it goes in the round socket on the case, see image, below antenna plug. The rest of the power/control/output connections come off the umbilical harness. CR-1 on the right, CDR-220 on the left in the image.

Cheers,
Kevin

Hello Kevin,
Once I cut the wires for the plugs on the original cr1,I threw it in the garbage. Hopefully it will not become valuable 20 years from now when our cars become clasics .

Kevin,
Have you tried Becker to see if they have a harness that will work. I've got the HiFi option and am interested in moving to a 210 or 220. I'd rather not cut/splice any wires either. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Bumping old thread - Trying to get a CR-1 to power up - I have just the 12v+ constant yellow, 12v ignition, black ground hooked up to see if it would power on - no luck. Do I have to do anything with the security plug? Thanks-

Porsche harness ISO A connections:
Pin 1: Not used
Pin 2: Telephone mute input
Pin 3: Not used
Pin 4: Terminal 30 (permanent +12V)
Pin 5: Antenna amplifier power output
Pin 6: Not used
Pin 7: Ignition switched +12V
Pin 8: Terminal 31 (GND)

It is important that the thin power feed wire to the antenna amp is connected to ensure good FM reception.
The green wire is the alarm trigger wire. In the original radio/frame it was connected to ground when the radio is extracted. Tuck it away disconnected and insulated.
Cheers,
Tore
