Default Oil pressure gauge comes in and out

My oil pressure gauge seems to cut to 0 quite frequently.

What are the symptoms of a bad sender unit? Do they usually spike high or low? When it is not at zero, it is working perfectly fine.

I've never had problems w/ a oil pressure unit but from your description I would look at the wire (connector) at the sender unit first. Might also be wise to pull the gauge unit in the dash to make sure all connections are good there. You may get lucky and find the connector is loose.

Mine did that as well, at idle it goes down to zero and engine light goes on. Then when you drive the car presssure goes up light goes off etc etc. From what i've read this is fairly common and it is the oil pressure sender. Luckily i have a 95 non-varioram so as i was removing my beloved SAI pump, with my right side intake off it was right there and easy to change. If you have a 96 or newer it is a PITA job and i dont know if you can do it without varioram off or engine out.

good luck

The connector on the sender is really hokey, so I'd start with just making sure it's seated properly. Not to hard to reach in there, especially on a 1995. It's down on the engine all the way back, right in the middle.

Its under the manifold dead center of the engine from a left to right perspective, basically behind the fan all the way back to the rear of the engine.
