Question Are the RS sway bars worth the extra price over M030?

I’m interested in replacement sway bars for my 96 993 C4S. I currently have TRG sway bars (front 25mm, rear 22mm) with solid bushings that are a little too harsh for me. I’m exploring two options: M030 - front 22mm 993 343 707 01, rear 20mm 993 333 701 03 and RS adjustable - front 23mm 993 343 707 81, rear 20mm 993 333 707 81. I want to buy what’s correct for the car, and add value if possible. I believe the M030 is a performance improvement over stock and the RS sway bars are better yet with a little stiffer ride and a higher price. Based on past Rennlist posts both options are very popular. I’m getting quotes from the favored Rennlist suppliers. The M030 set will be around $400 and the RS set around $800. Are the RS bars worth the extra price? If I’m not racing the car will I get any benefit from the adjustable feature?

Also, there is a RUF (front 23mm, rear 21mm) option which I believe are also adjustable. These are about $600. Can anybody recommend the RUF sway bars?

Thanks for any recommendations.

Either way I’m going to have a spare set of slightly used TRG sway bars with bushings. Maybe somebody wants to trade? I think the TRG bars are going for about $650 new. I’m not sure what a reasonable used price is.

Tim,

IMHO if you're not tracking the car stick with the M030 setup (another option is M030 front and the 21mm euro turbo rear bar).

If you have adjustable compression/rebound and plan to track the car at some point then the adjustable sways are a good choice.

Note that in either case you may want to upgrade drop links (RS and/or Tarett).

Used TRG sways generally sell for around $350.... if you do a search you'll find some recent data points

I went with euro turbos bars 22/21 on my M033 shock and springs. It seems to be a good compromise for street use and reasonably cost effective.

RS bars for $800? That's cheap. Last I checked it was over $1500 to get RS bars and all of the associated hardware.

RUF bars are not adjustable, they are fixed. I have a RUF 21mm rear bar and a M030 front bar. Had a 23mm RUF front bar but never got around to installing it and sold it instead.

IMHO +1 on $800 is cheap for RS bars.
If you ever plan to Auto Cross or Track, get the RS bars.
purely street, go with the non adjustable.

I would be interested in the TRG sways assuming they would fit a C2.

buy them if you plan on doing AX or DE so that you can tune the balance of your chassis.
don't buy them if you won't be doing AX / DE/

NOTE, the thicker diameter RS bars make for a less compliant ride then the MO30 / 33s

have fun

I have turbo sways and think they're terrific. Very neutral handling car spec'd with Bilstein HD's/H&R Springs/Evo uprights/RS suspension bushings/Solid side mounts. The only time I have wanted for an adjustable sway is in slower Auto-X's where rotating the car with the throttle in 2nd gear is problematic.

RS sways and hardware are about $800 from Sunset Porsche.

Tim, I have a set of the M030 on my car and am interested in a trade for your TRG bars. PM me and we can discuss.

Even if you're tracking the car, you'll likely never reach a point where you're driving the car hard enough where the additional cost of the RS bars is going to make a significant difference to your lap time and even if it is making a small difference, I can't imagine it's going to matter unless you're doing so competitively.

I'll swap ya my M030 bars for yours! What suspension are you running, & why do you think the bars are to much? You can adjust them after all.

Thanks for the recommendations. It's great to be a Rennlist member.

I ordered the M030 sway bars and bushings from Sunset. I think it's the right combination of performance and price for me.

certz was first to inquire about the TRG sway bars so I believe we can make a deal - and they won't sit in my garage.

Good choice Tim.
I had the TRGs and I went to the M030s. The reason was, the PO had the car set up for racing. The car was set up very low with PSS9s and the TRGs. I noticed a clunking noise in the front and my wrench found that the TRG bar in the front did not really fit very well and was hitting the power steering housing and was making the noise. I can't tell you why this was happening but I decided to go to the M030 and I noticed the noise stopped. I was still not all that satisfied with the ride as the car was very low, so I raised the car 1/2-5/8 inch all around and corner balanced it and that improved the ride. The car corners great and is comfortable on long trips.

It's because the TRG bar is so thick, here's a pic
