Funnyism that just happened to pop up watching Sunday's Top Gear tonight. Boris Becker was the celebrity car driver. Clarkson asks him about his first car. A 959 he bought when he was 19. Relays a story about him and a buddy running it top speed (326KPH) from Milan to Monte Carlo so he could prove to himself he was man enough to own such a car. Anyone know if he still owns it? (Said he owns three MBZ dealerships, and like his SLS best.)

Nope apparently his mother "confiscated" it from him, and sold it at a loss.

Great story nonetheless, not sure if you caught it in the season teaser, but Top Gear will have a head to head between the 959 and F40 sometime. I cannot wait for this rivalry to be properly shown on TV. Red 959 vs. red F40 what more can you want?

Loved the 959 the minute it came out (back in the 80's).
Such a purposeful yet fluid shape, almost looks like it's covered in Mercury.

I saw one driving on the road in Austria 2 years ago. It could have nbeen a body kit or something, but my buddy (who worked at Porsche) and I did not see anything to indicate it was not authentic.

I've never seen two parked side by side. From the few examples I have seen in person at

they look identical in size.

Nope, same bodyshell. It's just that most newer cars these days are humongous! Car and driver parked the new Ford Taurus next to the original one from 1986, and the newer one completely dwarfs the older one.

Probably one of the rarer cars in the parking lot that day, but no where near the rarest there. The Cavallino Classic is the premier Ferrari Concours in the country. Funny thing was that it (959) was not in the lot where all the exotics were parked.
