Default 95 Wiring harness recall

My mechanic thinks that my car does not have the replacement for the 95 wiring harness recall by Porsche. My car is running fine so far. It costs around $390 in Patrick Motorsports. Any thoughts on whether I should buy it?

Are you in Arizona? Call the dealer with your VIN they will tell you- or carfax will show an open recall

Once you verify whether it was done or not, I would say YES, get it done for $390. That isn't a bad price for 'peace of mind' 993 ownership.

If the update has not been done a dealer will replace it at no charge.

However if you want to pay for it yourself or replace a damaged one, the wiring harness recall "kit" used by the dealers is part # 000 043 204 61 you can buy this for around $100. Inside the box you get the new harness (993 607 016 15 list price over $900) and 6 zip ties.

Current Pelican price is $102.75

I ordered this kit a couple of months ago and it was $100. I have a hard copy of the installation instructions but the link where I got them from is no longer active. I can try to scan them in and send it to you tomorrow if you want.

Not only will a dealer replace the wiring harness for nothing, but in my own case, a dealer had replaced it and the new one failed - so it was replaced a second time, again at no charge.

The recall is open and it does not specify "one time only". It only says if a dealer inspects the harness and it is found faulty, it will be replaced at no charge.

Wow $100 for it at Pelican, Ill order it immediately.

The dealer here in Manila will NOT cover this recall. He will only if you bought the car from him. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

rsr91128 - thanks for offering the scan but my mechanic says he can install it but it will be time consuming.

If that is a Porsche dealer, then I would not accept this B.S. First check if its a worldwide recall, and if it is, I would take the recall documentation and shove it under the Dealership's nose. If they do not accept it, then I would write a letter to the Porsche rep in your area. And then continue escalating.

Not having a '95, I however have not seen the documentation.

Cheers,

Mike

Found a link to the old recall info that a Rennlister worked on.

The TSB's are there, looks to be a PCNA only recall so US and Canada only.

Call (1 800-Porsche) customer service on Monday and give them your VIN number and they will tell you if the recall is open on your 993 or if it has been completed by a dealer. Go to Porsche first and see what they say....

I may be mistaken but I believe he brought the car into the Phils as a parallel import so the dealer/distributor has no obligation even if it's a worldwide recall - he'd have to take it back to the original country of export.
