Default Carnewal HID HL upgrade today

Well, this took all of 15 minutes. I installed the kit I got from Gert a while ago. Could not be easier. No filing, no cutting, no crimping and it all fit in the bucket.

It took longer to put the matching bulbs in the driving lights.

Here's an in process pic, and one of the finished version. Ordered them and rec'd them in less than a week from Belgium, so I cannot complain about the speed of his service!

Looks great Ed. You didn't have to cut/crimp anything? What did you do with neg terminal that wraps around the small post?

My slim ballast fits in the bucket too, and not moving around at all. There were some discussion about heat build-up inside the housing. So far, mine are working great. BTW, are those LEDs in the driving lamps?

Just a little squeeze to make the circle smaller. They are LED's the Gert offers in the driving light sockets.

Looks nice. I'm sure there will be a big difference at night. What bulbs did you use for your driving lights?

Gert's, he only had one option on those.

There are cheaper kits, one from a company in San Diego even. But I've seen some reports that they are hard to reply, have back orders with some frequency, etc. So, to support a Porsche-Centric company like Carnewal seemed a no-brainer to me.

They looked great last night!

Now I gotta do Fogs, high beams, clear lenses, etc, etc, etc....

She just got a full polishing and waxing by me for her trip next weekend, so lots of brightness around Sapphire right now!

I recently did the HID upgrade with a slim ballast set-up and I was able to fit everything inside the bucket. My mistake was I used double-sided tape and attached the ballast on the cover of the bucket, thinking it would be cleaner and neat that way, plus the heat of the ballast will be farther away from all the wires and the reflector housing. The cover closed up just fine, but in reality the ballast was pushing against the wires that are coming out of the HID bulb, and the bulb wasn't able to seat down properly, ultimately causing the headlight beam to misalign badly.

So I took everything apart and stuffed the slim ballast in the pocket of space between the low-beam and the high-beam bulbs, and everything is peachy now. Initially I did have some concern about heat generated by the slim ballast, but it seems to be just fine after a few weeks of usage.

Hope this helps.

I did the same upgrade with Gert's kit. Like Ed, it took all of 15-20 minutes to install. Going into it I thought I was going to have to do an awful lot of "fitting" and was prepared for it to take an hour or two. Nope... other than two passes with a file to level a burr, nothing else.

I also installed the Turbo S ducts with the LED locator lights. Outside of rattle canning the duct, it took ten minutes to install.

I don't think so. The ballast has another plastic bit about 1"x 1" x 1/2", that takes some space. I didn't bother trying any double-sided tape or anything, as the single setup is pretty snug in there.

My thought is to try the fog lights next, and maybe pull the HL on one side to test fit the ballast.
