Need info on 993 for sale in Costa Mesa
There is a 97 993 coupe in Arena Red over Tan interior for sale in Costa Mesa for $25990 at European Imports. They have had this car for quite some time so I am wondering what, if anything, any members know about the car. Unfortunately, I am in Chicago so have not been able to see or drive the car.
This is the color I have been looking for. Carfax shows 2 accidents. The sales guy says that all panels on the car are original and suggests that the damage was probably done to the bumper covers which could have been replaced.
The car is a one owner and has spent its life in the Irvine/Newport Beach area of Southern California. Its advertised in both AutoTrader and Cars.com.
The front of the car has been resprayed to take care of all the the rock chips (according to the salesman). The car has LSD and only 87k miles on her. I have a copy of repair invoices that show an upper end rebuild at 61k miles along with a clutch (car currently shows 87k miles).....so, she should be good to go as far as the secondary air issues prevalent in these cars.
So, why has the car not sold at such an attractive price?
I am relatively serious about the car; but, would like to save the cost of a plane ticket to California to look it over, if possible.
Any help would be appreciated.

I was waiting for someone to ask about this car. I drove it and looked it over for 15 minutes in early December, and determined it was not even worth the cost of a PPI.
Prominent oil leak/smoke on LH side, respray on the front by the dealer-supposedly to deal with road rash (weren't they nice!), evidence of respray at LH rear qtr, rear valance needed replacement-it was hosed, CEL light was on, so I don't know what all the top end work fixed? Seemed like there was someting with the brakes I didn't like. Oh, I love the "they all do that" when I noted the CEL and smoke. High at the $29990 asking they had, and high at 25990 now. Somebody got out of this car as it is at the top of the slope, and sliding. What else do you need to know?

Costa Mesa 993
Thanks for the replies. I had wondered why the car had been advertised for so long. Now I know. Since I am in Chicago, it would have been expensive to fly out to LA only to be disappointed in a car that was grossly misrepresented by the dealer. In my discussions with the dealer it sounded as though the car was perfect......no leaks...drove perfectly, etc.
Caveat Emptor, as usual.

And they probably looked at you as their knoght in shining armor as they will be responsible to get it past smog if sold in CA. But I guess they can probably pay someone off if needed.

wow this is great information. I called the seller yesterday and was left with the impression that this is a solid car, in great condition...
I've been glancing at 993s over the last few months. Now that I'm leaning towards the 993 more so than a 997 i've been more aggressive in my search.
I live in the SF bay area and too considered driving down, and arranging a PPI on this car. Thanks to the folks on this forum, you've saved me the headache.
with that being said, if anyone has a nice clean example 95-98 C2 coupe/manual. I'm seriously interested!
any one have information on this one?

I like the mods and it has decent miles 70k and is priced well too. Looks like this car was bought in Vegas a few months ago by this dealer.
thanks

Forget the Arena Red one in Costa Mesa -- check this one out instead!
Last night I was browsing ebay, and found a very nice '98 Carrera S. 70K Miles, 6 Speed, Arctic White. Car is in Washington and after Googling a bit I found some pictures of the current owner who is a rich entreprenuer. I would seriously consider this car as it will always be worth more than $38K in my opinion. BTW - The $38.5K is buy it now. If you're going to buy a 993, it might as well be a 98 Carrera S. This car will sell. I'd buy if I could...
