or until he hits a member of your family in the car he didn't see pull out.
Look, you want to go 170mph, thats great...i've done it before and will do it again.
But its simply irresponsible to take pics of the speedo while driving.

I'd be surprised if anyone posting here hadn't tried a little höchstgeschwindigkeit run at some point in their life. Maybe not in a 911 (I've never exceeded 5800RPM in 6th in the 993) but in my youth I maxed out several lees-than-ideal-for-the-job beaters.

I say BS to that speed. 175 mph equates to about 6250 RPM in a stock C2 in 6th.
Strange that I can't see a tach needle between the 6000 and 7000 marks.

While I like big speed runs like this, I must admit its the acceleration that I like more than the product of acceleration. The twin turbo 993 just begs to hold it pinned!
I can only get 140mph on the front straight at California Speedway.

Why? Well I guess he will just have to do another run again, this time with the tach needle in the 6K range, if it will pull that in 6th with a stock engine.
I too prefer Gs which is why I like flying...spent many years as a flight instructor.

I love it!
High vehicle speeds represent different things to different people. Just last night over a beer I was talking to my CPA about a test drive I took in a breathed on 996 TT and how I passed a car on the freeway. Just as I got back in my lane I glanced at the speedo and saw 108 on the digital display. He said it would have scared the s**t out of him. Then I told him how years ago two common friends and myself were riding our sport bikes on a two lane rural highway thru the desert in December. Were were holding the speeds between 120 and 150 mph for about 50 miles. Then it started snowing and we slowed it down to 140 mph or less and when I entered a big sweeper at about just over 125, I got a little twitch (slip) from the rear tire.
Different people have different levels of comfort. I'm most comfortable doing high adrenalin activities. Racing, rock and ice climbing. I get restless sitting and watching TV.

And the condition of the roads around here that I drove my car on today made 70 look nuts. If you know the road, you know the road. And I'm talking the physical pavement. Of course Germany (Europe?) is billiard table smooth. They engineer it, and pay to maintain it. I'm sure wherever this took place was likely as good as it gets for what we have over here, all things considered. I know there were several places in Arizona we did this kind of stuff in the '80s. Namely, the Estrella Parkway out West of the White Tank Mountains, where there was about a 20 mile "road to nowhere." Probably a bunch of empty, foreclosed subdivisions out there now.
Fastest I've ever been on land is what we later calculated to be right about 190, on the roads outside the gates of Willow Springs. Bob Devore (think Devek, the creator) driving one of his early 928 test mules while I was shotgun fiddling with early (circa 1990) aftermarket EFI. Could only get up to a mere 145 or so down the front straight of the track, so we hit the streets...............
