Chassis frame damage near suspension mount
Hi
I am looking into buying a 993 which has Chassis frame damage near suspension mount.
See the attached photos of the damage
The car has LOWERED SUSPENSION done about 10 years ago
The current owner had it since new.
The owner doesn't know how the damaged had happened.
He thinks that he may have hit the curb hard or might be damaged over time by improperly lowered suspension.
Any idea how bad is the damage to get it fixed?
is it a known weak points that may have happened to other 993 cars?
Any idea as to best way to fix and what else needs to be done to the car i.e Chassis alignment & corner balance etc?
Any help will be much appreciated?
Thanks
Peter

Woah, looks like that car hit something real hard, curb or something in the road. I would not be driving around with a major chassis component in that condition. Hit something else, brake hard or round a corner and you may have catastrophic failure. The PO was real lucky IMO.
Perhaps another reason to install a strut brace on a lowered car.....

Wow....
I got t-boned directly into the wheel hard enough to break the upright and bend the shock tube. No damage to the tub whatsoever (did have a strut brace in place though). I can’t imagine how hard of a hit it would take to separate that. The way its peeled back makes me wonder if it’s a build defect. I would be very skeptical of it thought.....

Their is NO WAY some one did that & can't remember. That is a MAJOR hit, & damage. A lowered car will not produce that unless you are jumping it & bottoming out.
It looks like it can be repaired, you would have to have a shop put it on a frame rack. I would guess there is other damage some where else.

A top end collision shop can pull the strut tower back to within a mm or so of factory spec center, and correctly re weld the failed spot welds: once the lower control arm and its mounting centers are checked for integrity and centering ( to chassis spec), that side should be fine.
I would have the whole suspension checked out, as this damage appears to be from a vertical drop .... not a smack into a pot hole ( the latter torques the suspension assembly backwards, using the top strut mount as a pivot .... which would result in a tearing/twisting if it caused failure in the area indicated: the shown failure appears to have been a massive vertical punch - ie. no forward velocity.
That strut would have surely bottomed out - so is likely shot.
Anyway, if the car is a fantastic deal, it may be worth fixing:

Thank you for all quick & quality replies, I was just waiting more replies before my comment.
I am looking for a week-end car and for some tinkering to do ,My daily car is a Mercedes S430 which way to complicated compared to a Modern Classic , which is I believe the 993 is.
I have asked the seller to come clean and explain to me as to what has really happened to the car.
he is asking $25000 for as is and don't want to fix it
How much do you believe the car is worth as is?
Thank you very much
Peter

You have to disclose more details on the car - cab/coupe/nb/wb/mileage/options/upgrades/maintenance history/etc...
Just FYI $25K can get you a pretty decent 993 coupe these days that's NOT FALLING APART AT THE SEAMS (well, spots, in this particular case).
