Thanks Eric.
It is great to have a second engine to work on during the winter. I bought it as a long block with a few boxes of parts, so now it will be liking putting a puzzle together and seeing what is missing. It is very educational, and a blast.
Everyone needs an extra engine.![thumbsup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigok.gif)

I didn't feel like 3.8 was worth it, but I did go with RS intake valves and RS cams![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I will probably run a sport exhaust system. Nicely warmed for street.

When I did mine, I did the analysis, and could not justify any of the upgrades but I will admit the RS cams/valves were very close.
Cheers,

Yeah, I had posts on here and Pelican, and I came to the conclusion that the cost to go to 3.8 just was not worth it. I did feel like adding the RS intakes and cams was worth it. I went with 1.26 for timing on the RS cams.

As far as I know, the stock 993 cam timing has never been published. Porsche assumes you are using the factory tools to align the cams, not the old style method. It does not appear in any of the technical booklets, shop manuals, or anywhere I have found. I used the 1.0mm number as confirmed from Gerry Woods (when I took his engine rebuilding course) and by "camgrinder" of Pelican parts.

Emerald,
It looks like you are making some great progress. I'm sure others will be referencing your thread as more go through an engine rebuild. Fantastic work and I look forward to future posts.

Thanks John,
It is a fun project. I am now trying to see what parts are missing, so I will have a better understanding of what's where when it is over.
