Great writeup Paul (Pstraub), now you've got me thinking....

I really like them over the stock 993 seats. To me, they have more support and better feel. By the way, I am loving the 996 seat heaters, they heat up in about 30 seconds and the 'high' and 'low' settings are perfect. I think I paid $700 for this set I found on ebay. The prices for nice 993 seats get a little crazy, and they are hard to find in really nice condition. I am assuming there are lots of 996 seats out there. If you search, you will find some good threads on putting 996 seats into a 993. When people see mine, they think they are stock 993 seats. Again, mine are heated, but only have the power seat-back. The front-to-rear slide is a 'basket-handle' lever and the seat height lever is on the side, controlling a pneumatic shock. I am pretty sure that full-power 996 seats would also work fine, but my main objective was black with heaters and headrest crest. Here are a couple more pics...

Paul:

Thanks for the info! I think $700 is a great deal- I could probably get almost that out of my stock 993 seats!

Cheers,

Paul.

Not really, unfortunately. It has to do with worm gear inside the rails.

Short but very strong suggestion - stay completely away from full power 996 and 997 seats for 993 install.

That is good to know, I didn't care about power, just black leather with heaters and crest, so I got lucky. Again, only my 996 seatback angle is powered, and they installed very easily into my 993. I have full front to rear slider movement and full pneumatic seat height adjustment.

And to Paul K, you are right, you can get pretty good money for your 993 seats, I got $600 for my cashmere, partial leather seats, so it was a cheap upgrade

Center console is probably where my switches are going as well, depending on what heating and what seats I end up with.

600RR, what type of heating did you put in and how? I assume full seat reupholstery with aftermarket heating elements?

Mike S. Like a DA I didn't research the heaters until after the install. Typical of my mod approach! In any event, the one installed by the shop is not as warm as my Cayenne OEM. Here are several links that include the HEIZGERAT SETZT which seem to be good:

Yep, I have one of these carbon dual heater pads. Bought it many years ago with intent to put into comfort seats of my first 993. Started taking teh seat apart, saw the design where foam is stitched to leather cover and quickly decided that it's not the right solution. This thought has since been confirmed by a couple upholstery shops.

So if one re-covers the seats, the pads can be installed easily and efficiently. If they go into existing 993 seats - not so much.
