The 996 GT3 shell seats were not FIA certified, but PCA allows the use of a seat back brace in lieu of FIA certification or if the seat is older than five years old. The GT3 seats are made by Recaro. I would be shocked if they skimped on the quality compared to, say, a Pole Position, but I am no expert.

I raced with GT3 seats and a seat back brace for three or four years and would have no problem in using them again. I switched to a Recaro Pro Racer HANS seat because I wanted the side head enclosure.

Race seats have to pass rigorous testing to be approved. And even so, the track life of the seat is only 5 years.
I disagree with almost everything in this post. IMHO cutting a hole in the seat bottom will unlikely affect structural rigidity but it certainly depends on the seat design. You'd have to have a smart eye to take a look. But you'd have to check the rules in whatever group you drive with, whether or not they prohibit mods like that.

I have no problem sitting in a non-FIA seat like a Corbeau. Now, a cheap PepBoys seat made in China would be different. Most racing groups require FIA certification and if over 5 years old, you need to use a seat back brace. There's certainly no such thing as a "5 year life" for seats. DE groups don't care about FIA or age of the seat.

Eric,

If it's a non-folding shell seat, no way in hell would I feel safe in, say, a Pole Position that had a bigger or extra hole cut into it. For a soft, folding seat, I might be okay with a hole, but it would depend on the design.

With the money I've dumped into the car this month I won't be able to get in on this but the seats looks great. I'd like to have a set of those sFRS in my car.

Thank you for the GREAT! service on the shift rod and SSK. Your extraordinary help kept my project on schedule.

Hey Darin,

How many confirmed orders have you taken? How hard are these to install and how high do they sit compared to stock seats? Being that they are a canadian company, do they ship directly within canada?
Thanks in advance!

They should stay hidden behind a couple sets of spare wheels and tires!

The timing is right I'm about to pull the trigger on (or maybe not now) Recaro Pole Positions. Wondering how they might compare, weight, safety, quality, comfort in case anyone can offer an opinion??

Thanks,

Jordan
