I agree with Quadcammer... never add them up

I know I will never break even
Adding up what I spent can only bring misery
I prefer to enjoy the cars and the changes along the way!

I wanna play too....imho....there is hardly a better pair of cars than a BMW as a daily driver and a 993 for a weekend car....of course I could be biased

bimmerboard rocks for e38 owners. it's the most active board of all the bmw forums I think.

I've had two 7 series BMW's. The maintenance was always more than what I put in the M5. Nothing done to the SC or 993 other than oil changes.

I don't ever add up my expenditures on hobby cars. I keep all my receipts, and can figure out roughly what I spend. I do my own work, so I almost consider it entertainment vs maintenance.

The upgrade I did on the '84's engine mid-year was almost $10K in parts and some machining. I spent more than that when I opened it up two years ago.

That makes the cost of the engine in that car, most of what I paid for my new 993. THAT, is why I don't add up all my receipts...

Yeah, but you gonna wait 1.5 years and 15K for BMW oil changes? Wife's car ('06 325i) still had 2K left on the computer oil change warning after 13 months. Yes, I change it in between.

'Cept maybe a 968 daily and a 993 fun car.

Oh, as far as costs, just oil change, track inspection with brake blled, some touch up paint and a new windshield. So basically no real maintenance.

The worst part is that the car is only worth about $7k. Didn't you post last year about what car to get rid of? Well, I think many counseled you to dump the 7. On the other hand, a nice ride for less than $500/mo.

I did not spend anything on upkeep this year. It is due for the 120,000 mil service, which I'll do in January. In fact, aside from gas and oil, I spent only $39 the whole year - on an HID kit which I still need to install.

Sorry to hear about that. This kind of news always saddens me. I hope your cars didn't wreck your relationship.

On topic, here's a very rough calculation:
two sets of tires (winter and summer) - about EUR 1400
Alignment: - EUR 300
annual tune up: - EUR 600
damage when someone broke in and stoll my portable gps - EUR 600
Total EUR 2900.
I drove about 10,000 km. Gasoline estimated 1500 liters at almost 1,50 EUR/liter - about 2250 EUR.
That would be EUR 5150 for 10,000 km which is equivalent to EUR 0.51 per kilometer
That's actually not too bad, when you compare with the depreciation of a new car. And that doesn't take into account that the theft damage was a one-off item and the tires will last quite a bit longer.

Spent $ 1,700 on my 2005 SL 65 AMG for oil change and new front rotors/labor. Oil change was a $ 99 special. Brakes changed at 35,000.......heavy car......big rotors at 15.4"....$ 688 a piece with discount from $988...slotted and drilled OEM.....car has 36K on it.....drove about 8k in last year...

Spent $ 180.00 for oil change for 1995 993........47K on 993....drove about 6k in last year....

Would have been a great year if not for the rotors!!!

Spent $ 300 on 2008 QX 56 Infiniti for 2 oil changes and new battery......with 30k miles...

Next year I will deal with brake flushes, etc. and other assorted maintenance items, including oil changes........hopefully will still spend less

more expensive than 2009 was for me...
60k maintenance, rear tires replaced (again), rear wheel bearings replacement, breakpads/rotors.

Oh, and the BMWX5 just needed 1 oil change...

Steve you need to get yourself an OBD2 code reader, you could have saved yourself some $$$$.

I never ever ever keep track of what I spend on the car, and if the wife ever found out exactly how much, i'd be SINGLE!!!!!
