I wonder how many hours head start one would have to give a F1 car against a 24H Le Mans car...if they had to run the full 24H?

917/30 had acceleration of a modern F1 car.

It only weighted a coupe hundered kg more (816) but it had more that twice the hp, @ full boost ~ 1580!

0-100 1.9
0-200 3.9
upto 320 in 10.9

and a 40-60 mph faster top end (260) in the Porsche and got better fuel economy. 4.6 vs 1.6.

Although the Porsche didn't have the technology or grip of a moderen F1 it would be an interesting race.

I wonder what it works out on paper. I suspect largely due to economy the Porsche might take an F1 in a 24 heads up race.

A F1 engine probably wont last 24hrs though.

faster?
many cars are faster, but modern F1 cars accelerate both + and - harder than most of us can comprehend.

they respond to steering input pretty well too.

Your numbers are in km/hr. BTW, my numbers came out of the Guinness book of records.

And the 1580 HP would no doubt be for the last of the 917s, a /30 to attain those stats.

Thats why it would need a long head start, so that it could ease off and conserve the powerplant.

At a 12 hour endurance race, we were running 2nd behind a Yamaha TZ 750 who was way way ahead...till it blew up in the 2nd hour. A TZ 750 was to the motorcycle racing world what a F1 is to the car racing world.
