I love my 993 so much. I got rid of my new 997.2 C4S.... The only Ford product that would be worth looking at is the GT40.

whats he got now?

An old tired and slow porsche?

I really think people need to give this new mustang more respect. When it competes very very closely with an M3, 1920s suspension or not, you have to give it some credit.

If Ford's history is any guide, the poor quality of the materials, let alone the workmanship, will make this car after 5 years very rough.

You can say what you want about Porsche, but the 993s were usually put together quite well. Compare my 15-year old C4S to any 15-year old Ford piece of crap and you'll have your answer.

Performance wise, it may be pretty good. And that's where it ends. As it always has for American muscle.

1st car 71 VW Bug, 2nd car 78 Mustang II 302, 3rd car 85 Mustang SVO; I didn't own a Porsche until 1996, but I've owned one ever since thanks to the the dot-com run up. My SVO cost me at least one semester of college tuition repair the damage from my turbo mods and it was a hotrod in the day. There's nothing wrong with enjoying the seductive power of the 2011 pony car, be it Mustang or Camaro, but trading in a 993 for a Mustang GT is tough to swallow. I will confess to trying to convince my wife as recently as three weeks ago to trade her Lexus GX470 in for 2011 mustang convertible. Why not have two cabs in the garage!

Agreed. I also really like their F150 line - especially the F150 Raptor. And actually the fit and finish of the higher line F150s (Lariat and FX4) is pretty good.

I own an M3. It's an OK car, but it isn't even half as much fun as my 993. Not the benchmark you should be shooting for.......

I have to agree. For what it is, I think Ford did a pretty good job with the new Mustang - especially the 302. I drive past the local Ford dealer every day and check to see if the 5.0 I would pick off the lot is still there...but in reality I could never part with my 993.
It would feel like selling one of my kids...

993s and Mustangs don't belong in the same universe. The Mustang is not a sports car. It's an overpowered, two-door Buick good for teenagers looking to beat the ricer kids at the nearest green light.

That was a close one!

I'll admit that I am impressed with the latest motor in the new Mustang. Ford did a nice job there. I'd consider a new Mustang as my second car (solely for the engine) but I believe I'd tire of the overall car pretty quickly. I couldn't conceive of replacing my 993 with one.

Food for thought. A 14 year old car that is still loved by many and is a great driver.

Show me a 14 year old mustang that is loved by many and is a great driver?

I get thumbs ups and compliments at every fill up. Would you get that in a 1996 mustang gt?

Well said. Exactly my thought.

There probably are some people who still love the 1996 Mustang. I imagine they'll be the same type of people who'll love the 2011 Mustang in 2026. And in 2026, I would imagine almost all 2011 Mustangs will be in the same condition, and also thought of in the same way, as 1996 Mustangs are now.

I am in car sales and I disagree with your generalization of cars salesmen. There is no doubt that there are many degenerates who solidify the cars salesmen stigma. But there are as many good and professional people who work in the industry. Especially so in the last few years, because only the good and professionals can survive. Over 2,000 franchises went under in the last few years, it is no easy task to sell cars.

You can't blame the dealer for trying to make a buck. And the dealer markup sticker IS NOT A TRICK. The MSRP is merely what Ford, the manufacturer suggests that their franchised dealer may sell the car for. A dealer is allow to markup just as they are allow to discount. Just because discounting is a normal practice and when the dealer is holding their grounds does not make them greedy or unwilling. Any hyped and hot vehicles usually have market adjustment markups. Chevy Volt is going for 10k over sticker. Prius at one point was 5k over. Any AMGs, from a decade ago, 10k to 20k. Heck, remember the Prowler or the PT cruiser? Yup, they all sold for over sticker when they were hot and new.

And if you bought 60+ cars in your life, you probably should know that a 13,16 yr O porsche is best for private sale, or consignment. Most mainstream new car dealers are not in the business to sell decade old cars. The lack of outlets and lack of interests will always result in low trade value.

Maybe your Ford salesman is guilty of not conveying this to you properly. But playing tricks, definitely not.

Mine is nearing 16 years and is still a great driver.

It would probably be appreciated by many 14 year old guys prior to learning how to drive.

Not at all, except for the 14 year old guys. Same thumbs up here but not just when filling up. Many times on the road!
