Default Removing 12 years of "mild use" GROSS!

Since I took deliver of my 98 C2S with under 39k miles, it has been up on jack stands...slowly getting cleaned up, odds and ends replaced and updated and getting ready for the suspension overhaul.

Before:

After:

Thngs seem to be going well...but then I decided to remove the front fascia to see what needs to be dealt with and was a little grossed out-

The driver's side oil cooler was completely clogged- Looked as if something had made a "nest" in there (no feces or fur was found) but dry rotted foam (from where?) leaves and dirt.

So after breaking out the 200mph leaf blower to get most of the big chunks out, it looks like I will have to make use of the hand dandy Gunk Engine cleaner and a pressure washer to ensure clear passage of air.

The scary thing is, after I bought the car, I drove it (hard at times) back to Charlotte from West Palm Beach.....glad I didn't frag the motor...I am sure the left side compensated, just a bit alarming.

So this is from a low mile 98....imagine what anyone's higher mile car is hiding!
Perhaps a racoon or kitten?

The driver's side "cooler" is the A/C condenser.

There is only one oil cooler on 993s, and that is on the right side.....

Unless I am wrong....

But AWESOME work on the cleanup!

Looks from the pics like it's about 20 percent partially clogged. I promise you your motor is okay.

I recently cleaned out both the ac condenser and the oil cooler. I had about the same amount crud as you and I have 97K on my car. There's a gap just passed the ac condenser that I believe is for debris to bypass. It was totally clogged with a mud like substance. I couldn't believe how much stuff came out of there. Hopefully my ac will work better now.

I knew this would bring Andreas' pictures out. Others? Cactus?

After going thru a case of Xenit last winter and not getting close to those guys look, I gave up.

The foam forces air through the cooler rather than allowing it to escape around it, so you'll want to replace it.
