Interesting response...
Here's my car at the dealer to get my new key fob reprogrammed (I paid $160 for reprogramming and vow never to go back to the dealer again).
I paid $35,000 for my car and Yes the odometer was broken when I received the car even though the dealer and first owner had signed stating that the mileage was correct and the car fax checked out. Passed smog and registration was not a problem. The mileage its off but it's not by much (maybe a couple of thousand miles) as I've just finished getting my hands dirty, replacing all of the fluids, fuel filter etc. and the work orders I do have support what I was told.
I mentioned the price not because I think I got a great deal, its just what I paid and that was the question being asked in the post.

Did you ask to see the PPI? Salerno Motorsports is a well respected shop in Rocklin. Higher end/expensive. He's been running the ad for a few weeks that I know of, but I haven't seen the car.

With sport seats and a clean PPI its definitely worth $34K and if you really dig the color combo, worth putting down an extra $500. I'd be tempted to have it inspected and negotiate a lower price depending on the outcome, but be ready to pay the asking price if nothing major is wrong.

What were the circumstances surrounding the PPI. Did he buy it recently and this is the PPI he got before purchase or is it a pre-sale inspection (I'd be very suspicious if this is the case). Always advisable to have someone you choose go over the car.

I think I can shed some light here. The seller is a POS. I negotiated to buy this car and agreed to pay $35K subject to a PPI. I was the one who paid $220 for the inspection at Salerno (I've posted it below). The seller represented the car as "perfect" other than a rock chip in the windshield. I emailed the seller listing these items and proposed a phone call to work something out; no revised price was mentioned. I was prepared to revise the offer by $1,000 and buy the car for $34,000. I got a response email that read simply, "no, goodbye." In summary I can respect someone not wanting to change their price, however he should have been up front about that from the beginning and he should have had the courtesy to communicate this in a follow up phone conversation. Too many good people out there; he's clearly not one of them.

Obviously we're not privy to the whole story but based on DH's assessment of the owner I'd have to say I'd reduce my offer accordingly, especially given the work that needs doing.

I would not do business with this guy out of principal. If you're specifically looking for a low mileage white/grey coupe with sport seats, M030 suspension, etc. I don't think the car is bad...just the person[ality].
