These things never go as smooth as planned.
95 993. Getting the windshield replaced after a mishap. I ordered the inner and outer rubber seal from Sunset. They said that was all I needed. My bodyshop guy ordered an aftermarket glass. On the factory one, there is apparently a plastic channel that the outer seal snaps into. Ill search when I get back on a real computer, but maybe you can point me in the right direction. Can I order the plastic channel? Do I have to order the factory glass?
On the plus side, there was no rust. Also, getting another little "while you're in there" which I'll post pics of later. Getting my stone chips touched up, as well.

Bart,
I believe the channel he's talking about is the one that's bonded to the glass. As far as I know no one was making aftermarket glass. irresepective of that, I would assume that aftermarket would come with the plastic trim ring bonded to it as well.
On old cars this plastic trim ring can crack, so there's nothing to hold the seal down - ultimately necessitating replacement of the window.

Bart- had a similar issue when I replaced mine earlier this year. Bought both seals and the 996 rope from the dealer and the installer kept telling me I needed the part you are describing. I went to the dealer twice and talked to Sunset and no such part exists. Ended up ordering a windshield from Sunset and having him install it rather than the "aftermarket" one they had.

getting ready to go through the same process. Windshield was struck by a rock and left a round crack the size of a silver dollar. I contacted my insurance company and they agreed to replace. talked to the installer and they ordered out the following OEM parts from PET per my request:
993 541 111 06 windshield tinted $728.43
993 541 925 00 cover outer $26.35
993 541 435 01 inner seal $28.65
According to the parts breakdown this is all you need for the replacement. I wonder if the plastic is considered as part of the windshield assembly? I also specified that I would not accept any aftermarket parts due to fit problems. I just installed the 996 rope about two months ago to stop the squeaking just wondering if it can be reutilized or should I just replace it.

Don, that was basically my question. Sounds like the plastic channel is part of the windshield. Also, Sunset says there's a VIN split on how the rearview mirror attaches, so have that ready.

I think I've found it. They call it an adhesive plate PET P/N 000 731 513 00, $21.72 If you look at the PET item#2 it looks like a small round object, but I believe it's more than that. I'll call my installer later today to verify.
