Default Wanted: stock air box cover

So I purchased the snorkel elbow that connects to the air filter outer cover for cars with wings and I decided after looking at my stock motorsound cover that it would be a real pain to pull the metal insert out without damaging things. So, I'm looking for a stock cover that I can buy to slap the snorkel on.

Anyone have one laying around I can buy?

Thanks!

I've got one. In brand new condition. Purchased it to drill holes and create a motorsound airbox cover. But, when I went to examine my current one, I realized that the PO had already installed one.

Purchased this spare one from an existing RL'er.

Send me a PM, if interested?

Adam,
It's just chromed plastic, and if I'm not mistaken, should just unsnap from the rest of the cover. Take a look on the inside for some tabs.

While the second one for $99 has free shipping... just something to keep in mind. FWIW a few months ago I bought a motorsound cover from Sunset, and at first my intention was to just buy the regular cover and drill it out, thinking it would be cheaper, but Jeff said that I had to buy the whole box to get the regular cover or I could buy just the motorsound cover at less than half the price - I think it cost me about $95-100.

Shown below is the Motorsound cover.

For anyone wishing to drill holes in their stock airbox cover, here are the details:
Upper zone: 8 columns of alternating 12 and 13 holes.
Lower zone: 8 columns of alternating 10 and 11 holes
Hole diameter: 4.2 mm or 0.165" (No 19 drill bit).

I have an MS Word template for drilling the holes if anybody wants to stick with the factory pattern. I can't give credit to the maker of the pattern as I have no idea where I got it from. Just PM me your email address. Alternatively you could just start drilling holes.

Okay... newbie question...

What is the purpose of the holes? More engine noise from the airbox? I can't see how a few holes would aid in much more airflow.

Thats what the person who drilled my stock cover should have done instead of sort-of randomly drilling holes. An automatic center punch can be used on the template you mention. Using some double sided film to hold the template in place would help while you are center punching the plastic.

If you look at the above cover carefully, you'll notice a faint rectangular area that looks slightly mat where the holes are located. From what I remember seeing on my OEM cover, that area is also mat in the stock cover and can be used to locate your template. See stock cover below...

Just sound/noise.

I fiddled with it for a while last weekend and it sure was not wanting to come out without a fight (or breaking the housing where the tabs click into. I figured if I could find a used one then I wouldn't have to risk mangling my stock motorsound cover.

TxnBluDvl might have misplaced his so I'm still looking if anyone has one...I don't really want to spend $100 on a new one!

It's a snug fit but will still come out fairly easily as long as you have all the catches released. IIRC there are four catches that need to be opened. Two in front (and obvious) and two in back at the corners, top and bottom. Make sure the catches are fully clear then move the front of the cover (facing you) to the right slowly and wiggle it out. Look at IXLR8's excellent photo and you can see where the tabs and catches are located. It's a pretty tough plastic and shouldn't break unless you really wail on it.

The stock snorkel is longer than it might first appear. I'll try to take a picture of it removed so you can see what to "unlock" and where to push to remove the stock part. It does come out, but it takes quite a bit of effort.

The new Turbo snorkel is much much shorter and only attaches at the 4 slots/tabs.
