OT: Boxster DD Perhaps?
#16
I looked at a Boxster whrn I bought my 968. Ended up deciding the 968 would lose less money and by cheaper to maintain. I was looking at an early Boxster that I actually might have gotten for less than the 968. I ended up deciding the 968 was the better deal for me. Never regretted that decision.
Boxsters are good for a lot of reasons, though. I have sang the praises of the Spyder ever since it's come out.

Funny coincidence.
I was just trolling CL and came across this car. It somewhat answers my question of what a Boxster would look like with Cup IIs. I have never seen a 996 with Cup IIs.
Sorry to take us off topic.

I have had my 2000 Boxster as a DD for a little over a year now, and couldn't be happier. I bought it at 89k miles for $8,000, and have put 16k trouble free miles on it. Up till now I have had no issues, but now it needs a new clutch and RMS. The IMS issues that potentially can (and will) destroy any M96/M97 engine, can easily and relatively cheap be permanently fixed with the kit from LN Engineering or Flat 6 Innovations.
For the price, no other Porsche (or any other sports car) can beat the Boxster. The handling beats any 911 (with the exception of GT3), the car is quick enough in a straight line, and turns on rails. And most importantly, it's very fun to drive.
Follow the recomandations NOT to buy a low mileage car, most engine issues/break downs happen before 50k miles, a 100k mile car should be a safer buy. If a car has survived 100k miles, it would (with regular maintenance) most likely survive the next 100k miles too.
With the market flowing over with used Boxsters, you can get a usable one for $6k, a good DD for $8k and a near perfect one for $10k. However, I see 986 Boxsters advertised for over $20k, those guys are in la-la-land (regardless of ultra low mileage), for that amount you can get a 987, that is a much better car than the already awesome 986.

If I were shopping for a used 986 S I would look for an '03. The '03s have a glass rear window, a glove box, different bumper, different exhaust, different taillights, slight increase in horsepower and I am sure more.
