No need to remove the battery. Just plug in the Porsche Maintainer and it will float the battery till spring. Works perfectly. The only thing I do in the winter is kill the clock (fuse) and take al ook at the battery for any signs of overcharging.

Porsche, Schumacher or other battery maintainer will do the job. My battery is 12 years old and is on the maintainer if I let the car sit for more than 2 weeks. Onboard is easy...search for the info as it has been documented many times. Remember to shut off the trunk light by closing the latch on the hood so the trunk light goes out!

Cheers!

Always a good idea to check/top up the battery fluid levels too, both before and after storage.

Just don't try to add fluids to a sealed battery...or do but film it for us please.

I leave the battery in all the cars I store for the winter, and connected to a battery tender. They're usually stored for 6 months, give or take, and they start right up every time in the Spring. Been doing it this way for many years.

Cheers.

Agreed but don't confuse "maintenance free" with sealed. Maintenace free batteries do occasionally need topping up. After a few threads on here about batteries blowing up we should all be aware that ignoring simple battery maintenance is not a good idea.

Ok silly question however does the battery tender just get plugged into the wall and left there? Do you close the hood completely or just partially click closed? And then you still put the cover on over top? I've always just removed the battery for the winter and kept it inside the house!

4 me:
Battery tender, Sta-bil in the fuel, stored in gear with ebrake off, a few moth ***** near the wheels, under two covers, and only started if I have time enough to let it get fully warm before turning off.

Porsche battery maintainers are great for Winter Hibernation.

I was very surprised how much distilled water my 4 year old OEM battery took in my 987S. Lesson learned. Easy to do, too.

I currently have an off-residence garage without electricity. Aaarrgghh. Should I remove the battery & put it on a tender at home?

I have a small Schumacher battery maintainer set-up with a cig lighter plug to make it easy. Work perfectly.

And when you get right down to it, there really is no such thing as a "maintenance-free" battery. The term "minimum maintenance" I could agree on.

Have you checked the voltage cut-off?

We just tested a couple of Schumacher chargers. One of them took a battery to just shy of 16V in the AGM mode.

I manually close the latch to turn the luggage compartment light off. Remember to unlatch it come spring before you try to close the hood. You can also set the immobilizer if you do that.

I put my cover over the car while it is connected to the CTEK charger.
