I’ve been driving my 95 Coup to work since I purchased her; my commute is now 44 miles one way. Living in Mission Viejo (So-Cal) and driving to Riverside, ½ canyons, ½ freeways. AC is a must as Riverside regularly hit 100+ in the summer. My AC blows hard and super cold. I think a 993 is the perfect DD, really nice on the freeways and better through the canyons, gas mileage averages 23. Maintain these cars and they go forever.

Thanks again for all the replies, everybody. Good to hear some encouraging DD stories, particularly at short distances. I'm living in Chicago. I currently live downtown, but looking to move into a more entertaining part of the city this summer.

I drove a 1986 Cab new until about 1997. I put on about 60000 mi as a mainly daily driver . We also had a SUV or some other car during that time which my wife drove as a DD.I put the car away in bad weather and usually drove some beater instead of the 911. Even if the snow is cleared ,the roads are still salty and there are other lousy winter drivers out there. I have a 95 993 now. It is our second car and I find we still need a first car as the back seat in the 993 is not big enough for anyone older than about 6.

This question comes up a lot here. And there are always people answering that they use their 993 as a daily driver. But how many out there who have a 993 as their only car?
imho, there's a bit of a difference using a 993 as a daily but with another car (or cars) in the garage. Anybody here have a 993 as their only car?

'95 C2 as my only car. 23K miles in the past 19 months, 50+ mile/day commute.
Why would I need anything else?![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Life might be a bit easier with a Honda DD, particularly an auto on some of the lousier commutes, but then again life is short, I'd rather be driving the p-car no matter what.

I currently have a 993 as my quasi-only car (my other is a 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider, certainly less practical than a 993). I am looking for a DD, though, because I find the 993 not very practical for around town driving. Harsh suspension (I have M030/Bilstein), no seat heating, big turning circle. Having said this, if you can do most of your around-town travel by public transportation, why not use that instead?

I DD commuted about 40 minutes each way in my 3.2 Cab. Top down year around except rain, so A/C was not an issue. Rebuilt top end due to valve guides at 110K.
The 993 is slightly more comfortable as a commuter and slightly more maintenance. Top end at 120K.
If my commute was <20 minutes in stop and go, I would get a used Honda Accord automatic, or similar.

I used my 1997 993 Cab as a daily driver in Los Angeles for 18 months. Great DD. It made going to work and leaving work fun. However, because you will have a short drive I would not go with an air cooled Porsche. IMHO, regular short drives in these cars will do harm over a period of time. Good luck.....

My 993 has been my daily driver for over 4 years.
I love it and would not change a thing.
But I live in the SF Bay Area and have a reserved, covered parking spot at work with only one car next to me (one of my colleagues parks to my left) - so it makes it a lot easier (if you worry about that type of thing).
However, I did end up buying an old A6 beater for weekend kids-soccer-game, etc. duty.

3.5 years and 30,000 miles as my daily driver. I take the kids to and from school, grocery store runs, occasional trip to work, when I go.
No problems with it at all. My kids don't mind the back either.
