Default OT: Bertil Roos Racing School at the Poconos Raceway

I attended a 1/2 Day Session with Bertil Roos Race Driving school on Sunday. I was able to "learn" a lot about race line, apex, acceleration, braking and passing. I also drove on a race track for the first time in my life. It was pretty cool and I must confess that it is not as easy as it looks.

The Formula 2000 race cars were a PIA to shift, due to lack of synchros. I never got hang of the shifting (especially when downshifting in a hairpin turn - I will have to move the brake pedal lower on my PCar so I can practice heel-toe or revving with the ball of my foot)

I am glad I did it; it was an awesome experience and well worth it. I am looking forward to next season, as I am planning to finally take the PCar out on the tracks, as well as, more schooling.

NB. Saw a few 993s there, anyone from this forum?

A clip (rather long) for your amusement...

Looks like fun! Being a racing school, were you allowed to pass? On my first DE I was told to forget about heel and toe downshifting as it was too much to learn combined with everything else. I had trouble remembering to touch the brake before turning in

Looks like fun! Always wanted to drive a open-wheeler. One day....

You should definitely get out and do some DEing....you will be HOOKED!

Yep we were allowed to pass at the long bend where we went top speed on these cars. The only way to get the gear in place is by getting the rpm to 3-4 k while braking! It was a disaster...

That's the plan

Which course were you on? When you say "long bend" I'm inclined to think North course.

Was PDA or NASA the main organizers?

Have had many DE's at Pocono. Always fun as long as you keep it out of the grass.

It was the South Track, 1.2 Mile. I think BR is SCCA and NASA sanctioned.

Did the three-day and loved it. Extravagant for me but well worth it. If you complete day 4 and 5 you've got the instruction requirement of a SCCA license.

A lot of fun, real instruction, and a chance to see how you fair against other participants.

Great to hear you had fun and added another experience under your belt. Soooo jealous. I've got to get my beast finally sorted out before I can contemplate this adventure. Be well!

This brings back memories. I did my 2nd requisite SCCA Racing School at Pocono/Bertil Roos, back in 1985 in my ITS 240Z. Bertil even conducted much of the classroom session. I wonder if he still teaches "auto pilot"?
