Default Wheel and Tire Height

I've been lurking for about 9 months and enjoy and appreciate how much information is shared on this forum. I wish I had found this site before I purchased my car, but that topic can be its own thread.

I purchased an essentially stock, low-mile 1996 C4 in January, and since then have made some mods based on the great suggestions shared by the members of this board.

One modification was a suspension upgrade to Bilstein HDs, MO30 springs and front and rear sways. The installation followed the detailed instructions provided in the DIY Suspension Install For Dummies on this site.

This brings me to my question. The suspension was installed between ROW Stnd. and ROW Sport height with the 17" cup wheels on the car. Now I am planning on installing 18" MY02s that several have done on this board. How will this affect the ride height of the car? Did I make a mistake setting the ride height using the 17" rims? Any help is appreciated.

In theory there should be no difference as the sidewall is shorter on the 18" tires. However it's best that someone with direct experience answer this question for you.

Just out of curiosity why are you moving from the stock 17" cups? I actually did the reverse. When I bought my car it had 18" 996 turbo look wheels that I replaced with 17" cup II's. The MY02's are a much nicer wheel than what I had but I like the stock wheel's better and tires are less expensive.

The change to the MY02s is purely because I like the look. I'm keeping the 17" cups in case I change my mind in the future and want to go back to stock.

Assuming that you are going from stock 17" sizes ie 205/45//255/40 to stock 18" sizes ie 225/40//265/35 the front is the same height and the rear 18 is ~.3' taller, half that is the delta in ride height, it will not be observable or an issue in any way.

I made that switch a few years ago and there was no visible difference. But even if there was, the Bilstein shocks are threaded so you can raise/lower to reset the ride height.

I have MY02's and I run 17" winter wheels and tires in the, uh, winter. I cannot tell anyone difference in the look of the ride height when I switch and I am about a 1/2" lower than RS.

I do plan on using the 225/40//265/35 tires, so I'm glad there will be no problems. Thank you for the responses.
