Default Detailing my engine?

Has anyone ever detailed their engine?

How did you do it? Any concerns or things to look out for such as blocking off certain areas? What did you use?

Seems like a waste of time since no one will ever see it.

Clean cars run better. But what do I know?

I just wipe off the visible dust, oils and road grime with a cloth and 303 protectant or similar from time to time.

You should be ashamed...

That's too clean to even eat off of.

Bah, 993 engines are not exactly sexy to look at. Buy a Ferrari and you'll have plenty of time to look at it...

Yup, primarily because I work on my own car and it is far more enjoyable when they are clean...just like my motorcycles.

As a bonus, they look better clean as well...

I even got to the areas not readily visible...

I used a special water-based cleaner/degreaser and a long handled 1" paint brush with heat shrink around the metal band to prevent it from scratching anything it comes in contact with.

No, I just started my engine for a few minutes and then let the heat dry it out.

Note that my oil cap is polished

Oh, and I just used 303 and rags. And some metal polish for the cap and a couple other metal pieces. My airbox is not the motorsound one, but I modified it similarly and painted the trumpet with a paint similar to the wheel color.

aaah, should be OCC-obcessive compulsive cleaners

OCD should be obcessive compulsive DRIVERS

put me in the later category please

although, engine bay is pretty clean I must say. It's been probably 3K since I really spiffed it up in there-pretty much did it the first detailed detail I did on the car.

To drag this beauty contest in a whole other direction, fall means more than beautiful changing leaf colors here in Central New York. It means all the wonderful back road twisties are mud/cow $hit covered from fall harvest etc...

drive more, clean more(within reason)...repeat

I plan on spending more than a few hours under it this winter cleaning anyway.

without getting insanely OCD like some of the guys here... you can use a degreaser like p21S total body wash, a good scrub brush, rinse her off, dry with a blower or compressed air, and then 303 or vinylex for the dressing. just cover your intake and any wire connections
