Default OT-2000 miles-Canadian Rockies-lots of pictures

We live on Vancouver Island BC, Canada and attended the Porsche Escape in Sun Peaks BC, earlier in September. We had not taken a decent road trip in the 993 so we decided to make the most of the trip in the time we had off from work. We decided to go over to Jasper, Alberta and cruise around for a couple of days and then go down to Banff, Alberta on the Icefields Highway, home of many of Canada's glaciers. We stayed around the Banff area for a couple of days and then went to Sun Peaks for the Porsche Escape and then returned to Vancouver Island.

The trip was phenomenal, the weather wasn't. We had a lot of overcast weather, showers and rain but we had a great time. We took many pictures but because of the weather many weren't worth posting. Since we have travelled the Icefields Highway on several occasions and different times of the year, I have uploaded pictures from our trip with the Porsche and pictures from other trips as well, some of which were during the winter.

We were concerned about experiencing car problems during the trip so I contacted MikeJ (a friend) who was kind enough to provide some tools and belts if needed in an emergency. I know that we didn't have every possible scenario covered but we felt better having had Mike's advice and spare car parts and tools. Thanks again Mike! As it turned out the car performed beautifully and our concerns were unwarranted.

I didn't upload pictures of the Escape because Rob and MikeJ have already done a great job of that!

In the pictures below there is a picture (zoomed in) of a guy climbing the frozen "weeping wall". To give you an idea of perspective the next picture has the same person in the picture along with seven or eight other climbers. Not for the faint of heart!

For those of you who have not done a decent road trip I would suggest you give it a thought. We had a marvelous time. And thanks to the wife and her packing abilities we had enough cleaning supplies and towels for the Sun Peaks event, where the cars were washed daily and no dryers were available to dry the towels, and five changes of clothes!

Great pics. I live only about one hour away from all of this, and sometimes (hangs head in shame) it is easy to take it all for granted.

Beautiful shots. Banff is truly amazing and simply the most stunning places I have ever been. Standing out on the back patio of the Fairmont, looking up at the snowcapped mountains in July is amazing. I was there 6 yrs ago and long to return. Your shots capture the beauty so well.

Made 4 trips to the Canadian Rockies in my 993, including one as far as Jasper with my daughter. Wish I lived a bit closer. Beautiful pics. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Bret. Looks like you had a great time; sorry I couldn't make it to the Escape.

Here's another Rockies shot taken at the summit of Rogers Pass:

I had that concern when we were making a run up Highway 85 in the Dakotas.

Outstanding!! This post with the beautiful photos should encourage all owners to get out there and travel with their favorite cars instead of worrying too much about the "what if..." problems. It could be a trip of a lifetime. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for all the great comments everyone. For those of you that haven't seen the Canadian Rockies I would highly recommend the trip. Should you decide to do it in the winter remember that the guy operating the snowplow on the Icefields Highway is named "Harry Highblade" .

Harry Highblade...
Luckily, the skiing's good enough at Sunshine / Lake Louise / Norquay, that we don't have to drive the Icefields Parkway that often, in winter.

...get out there and travel...95 NC 993
And I find my car to be just super comfortable; the seat fits like a glove.
