Default Common 993 issues?

Are wiring harnesses, CV boots, and steering rack replacements all common 993 issues?

  • Porsche had a wiring harness recall (not sure of what model years were affected).
  • CV boots can degrade with high miles & age on any car so equipped.
  • Quite a few 993s have needed steering racks replaced over the years. Mine was replaced under warranty.

Let's not forget "secondary air" issues.

Thank you, the car I'm considering has had these replaced.

Can you elaborate on "secondary air" issue and if you know what rear main seal issues mean? I understand these air very expensive to fix.

Excessive oil consumption, due to valve guides, rear tire wear, control arm bushings, driver door restraint mechanisms breaks, front & rear window squeaks, rear window cracks. Oil leaks.
Personally, I’ve fixed valve guides, control arm and driver door assembly.

A few more...

- Windshield squeak (Pedro's Ice Wax)
- Door check strap
- Windows switches are prone to break
- Quandary to drive the hell out of it, or treat as a piece of fine art that just happens to be framed in the garage (recommend the former).

Secondary air and rear main seal leaks can be very costly, general area of $2500 - $3000 according to Hilton Head Porsche mechanic I've spoken to. Could be cheaper elsewhere, but something to consider/avoid/negotiate before buying I would think.

Dual Mass Flywheel can go bad causing a P300 series random misfire Check Engine Light. I had this issue but fixed it by installing a LWF.

Uh oh ^^^^

Don't forget: air duct cover, oil cooler fan resistor, ac cooler fan resistor, hood & frunk struts, the dreaded cel, convertible top issues, SPEEDING tickets, SPEEDING tickets & LOTS of DROOL on your paint. Can buy a V1 to fix the SPEEDING ticket problem. Can't find anything to fix the DROOL problem. Just get a good car with decent miles & expect to do a few things here & there...well worth it if u ask me. Mine has 33,000 miles now & will probably spend $$$ on it all the time even if it doesn't need it b/c I can't help myself...maybe I need 993 annonymous???
