I have 60K miles and the original shocks shot. Looking for the most cost effective way to lower the car to euro-spec, replace the shocks, improve handling, and still maintain overall drivability. I dont mine doing the wrenching work myself. thanks

well the 2 that come up the most often are

1-ROW M030 (OEM option for springs, sways, etc.) w/Bilstein HD shocks
2- PSS10

Not sure what the M030 optioin costs these days, but the PSS10 is $2500-$2750 depending on where you look. I think that this is the option I am going with soon. My car has 50k miles on it, and also everything is original suspension.

There are other options - H&R, KW, etc. that are very good too...these just seem to be the two most common.

Even installing yourself, you need to get a proper alignment, which is very expensive. So, you only want to do it once. As such, I would suggest one of the adjustable setups - PSS10 is most popular but I think I would like to try KW. I went with Bilstein HDs and H&R springs which is a good setp, but I think the HDs are overdamped.

+1 for the HDs and H&Rs which I have, but agree about the dampening. Fantastic on the freeway though.

Is the car a DD, track car or something in between?

pure DD: M030/HD is good cost effective solution
pure track: I don't know, but some here can provide their recommendations

I just rode in a coupe with the new Koni FSD's (Frequency Selective Damping) and M033 springs setup and the ride/handling was great. The ride height IIRC is dictated by the spring length so if you use M030 or M033 Porsche springs, your at R.O.W. height with these struts installed.

I have the M030 with Bilstein setup and really like it for the money but if I had the extra $$$ I would buy the Pss10's

Sunset has a special on the stock setup, but I would recommend going to other shocks.

I have the M033's / Koni FSD's in my car, and really like the combination. The ride has a very nice, compliant, feel to it, hard to describe, and is very controlled, even on rough surfaces during brisk cornering. Cornering has much improved from before, which was stock NA with Monroes. On smooth surfaces the car feels very planted.

The FSD's are supposed to adjust to smooth and rough road surfaces, and the system seems to work.

While I am very happy with my set up, ultimately the ride / feel of any car is a very subjective experience, and I think an owner who is very particular about these characteriestics might want to consider a fully adjustable system.

imho, going with adjustable coilovers will leave you with no potential regrets later on. Bilstein PSS-10s or KWs.

fwiw, I have PSS-10s with an alignment (and a corner balance with me in the car) set at slightly below ROW height. It took a bit of experimenting to dial in the numbers on the Bilsteins for my own tastes, but it's all good now for me in respect to great handling and also driving on real world roads.

I have the MO33 springs with HDs, and for bumpy UK roads I find it quite harsh.
It's very planted at speed, has lowered the car nicely, and corners very well now.

That was what I had heard about the HDs which is why I went with the PSS10s. There was no talk of any other option between the HDs and PSS10s at that time and the stock stuff was out of the question. I have no regrets.

I went with m030 sways but pss10 lowered to euro height. Rs upper strut bar. Excellent ride and handling. May have gone with turbo sways if I knew eq better when I ordered parts.
