You can also purchase nice jack pads and jackstand pads from here:

What a great idea! This is at least as good as a hocky puck, and should fit the top of your stands nicely! Hockey pucks really don't fit those very well.

i tried the fit and it seems that the curved side likes the minimal concavity of the jack. this will leave the flat side to the car HOWEVER, i haven't tried it under the car yet...keep your fingers crossed

i used the aluminum jacks stands in the pic with my handy rubber sander handle (flat side towards car). the minimal concavity of the jack stands fit the curved side of the rubber sander handle perfectly. i even used one of the rubber sander handles for my aluminum jack (which already has a rubber piece). this was just extra protection. anyway, it worked perfect and will use again tomorrow night for other side : ) just thought i would pass on the info.
thanks for all of the advice. i am still going to pick up some of the flat jack stands...they look gr8!

Just an FYI. A good freind of mine has his aluminum stands from HF fail on him (wasn't under the car or anything which was good). Something with the locking mechanism that failed. I've used similar stands for years and noticed the locking mechanism isn't moving freely like it should either. I finally woke up and bought some torin stands pictured above. The tire rack ones above are the same thing as the snap on blue point stands which are also really good. Also am going to pick up a pair of the escos.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to see a photo or an item # of the suspect HF stands.

if you end up buying a pair of the esco stands, other stands with hockey puck or the sanding block idea will look silly.
not that other stands aren't as sturdy or the sanding block idea isn't good.
its just that while under the car you'll look over(or at least I did) and wonder is it really worth saving $130 to buy normal stands and put a hockey puck on top instead of these big solid looking flat top esco's?
the flat top on the esco is just over 4 inches across and welded to the post with a fitted rubber pad.
my hockey puck method, with custom deep ground out grooves to fit the normal stand, looked downright dangerous after getting the esco stands.

I posted before seeing crg53's stands, those do not look silly.
very nice.

JMHO,.....
I've seen some of these Chinese-made aluminum jack stands fail so I'll not use such things anymore.
This isn't the place to cut corners to save money any more than using a cheap floor jack. Having lost 2 friends to situations like these, its hardly worth a life or serious injury.

I just did the front end on my Honda using jack stands and hockey pucks. Some good shoves sideways couldn't get the car to slide off the stands. Seems to work as the rubber conforms to the surface irregularities quite well.

I can't see 1500 pound stands bending when all they have to hold up is a quarter of the weight of a 3000 pound car or 750 pounds.
