New member looking to purchase
A new member to the board as of today. Excited to see such a place exists and so active. I'm a 993 lover and at 41 years old, I want to accomplish that lifelong dream of finally purchasing one and calling it my own. I have been on every site from Truspeed, Sloan, Victorymotors, Wilhoit trying to find the "one". My problem is I love them all, narrow to wide, C2 to C4S.
I have locked on one out of Oregon, white C4S with 15k miles on it going for 60k. I can't seem to pull the trigger. I was hoping to spend more in the 35k, with 50k miles or so and work my way up. Pretty excited about it all, mostly in the fact my wife cleared the runway for me...

Just wanted to say hello and let you know I'm looking out there.

I'd stay away from a garage queen (unless that's what you want), and look for a higher mileage car that has already had most of the big $$$ work (suspension, top end, etc.) done.
You can find a great example for $35K, even a C2S/C4S, but it won't have 17K on the clock.
Be patient and you'll find the one for you. The hunt is half the fun! Good luck!
Lot's of nice 993's come on the market from time to time. You might want to add Pelican Parts, rennlist classifieds and the PCA mart to your list. Just remember get a PPI. Good luck in your serch.
This is an incredible resource, no doubt. I was in your shoes around the first of the year. While your "willing" to spend amount is more than mine, I too was originally all over the board in what I was looking for. I finally narrowed my search to a C4S, and I hoped to spend less than $40K on it.
I looked at many, many 80-100K mile cars, but none really excited me. I finally convinced myself, to narrow my search even furthur...no West coast cars. I just needed to see/touch/drive, whatever I bought. Besides, shipping costs were a chunk of change that you would never get back.
In the end, I bought a fellow RL'ers car. A 97 C4S with 63k miles, loads of new bits, a true driver, and it was just 4 hours away in NJ.
When the waterfall of mods started, I blew my budget right out of the water. After all the dust has settled, the vast majority of the mods are done, and the last bits of needed maintenance have been performed.
The car certainly isn't perfect cosmetically, but mechanically it is simply spectacular. I wanted a car that I could comfortably drive everyday, and not freak out when I had to park in a big lot...or God forbid, get behind a dumptruck on the thruway.
This car is absolutely perfect for me, and how I use it. I could have spent more, but then I simply felt I would worry more about it.
So, my advice..narrow the field,
-decide coupe, targa, cab
-decide wide body or narrow body(you choose targa or cab, it'll be a NB)
-decide RWD or AWD
-must have options
-top color combo's
-most importantly...decide, driver-or garage queen
The search function here is your friend, use it and learn. Once you narow the field from above, the price point will come.
I suggest a driver.
Best of luck, and welcome

Welcome!
I spent about 1 year looking, reading and SEARCHING Rennlist for hours and hours...and hours and...., wasting work time on all the sites. Rennlist is actually where I found my car, but I stared at autotrader.com, craigslist, all the higher end dealer$ (too high end for my taste$). There is a comprehensive list on a thread here somewhere. Spending the time to learn about the cars will only enhance the excitement, and you've wandered into the treasure trove of 993 knowledge here on RL.
+1 on the older car. $60k can be better spent on a $35k car, a bunch of mods, and a couple of kick *** vacations to somewhere nice (to calm the wife when she sees the mod bills start to roll in...
) You will quickly find these cars can run for a long time with just some minor TLC. (TLC includes running the car up to redline on a regular basis, by the way!
)Take your time. You've waited 41 years to realize the dream, a few months won't change the grin on your face on your first drive of YOUR car!
(3 years later, a drive in mine STILL puts the grin on my face!)
I appreciate the advice guys, and I agree, time to start focusing, narrowing the field. Kinda reminds me of the single life and now time to find the one to walk down the aisle.

I'll keep my eyes open and keep searching. I think more will start popping as winter comes and people have to decide to store or sell. I for sure want a driver, and leaning towards that C4 or C4S since I'm out of Boulder Colorado.
Thanks again, and trust me, I'm reading every word. I'm sure I'll have more questions.
