Hi
My engine lid is closed, and I can pull the release cable all the way out. Help please with how to fix this problem. I read that there is a cable somewhere behind the left wheel somewhere?!?!

I have my engine plastic screen removed and I can reach in and undo mine if the tail is up.. if you still have your stock plastic part on, (I assume a normal person would) maybe you can raise the tail and get the release with a coat hanger..

My car, a 97, does not have any wire loop I can find in the left rear fender, with the inner fender covers off. Anyone know how to open the engine lid, without using a can opener?! I saw someone could access it through the wing when up, but he had removed a plastic piece, which I haven't.

I seem to remember that you might be able to get a rod between the body and rubber seal at the rear of the engine. Maybe have a look. If possible, place some heat shrink tubing on the metal rod to prevent scrapes. (Doesn't look promising. I just checked.)
There is an oval rubber plug in the sheet metal between the distributor and the cooling fan sensor. If you pop it out, you should be about to focus a flashlight beam and check to see if you can see the screw in the following pic...

Now get some safety wire (roughly 0.040") and twist a 1" long loop at one end. Try fishing it through that plug hole and onto that screw in the pic above. Pull and hope.

Hey Guys
After what Alex and Coleman said, I could not go to sleep. So, I removed the left rear brake light assy, and nothing. I then raised the rear tail, and looking through from the right side looking down and slightly left and backward through the tail assy, with a flashlight, you can see the bolt in Alex's picture. I used a two foot long 3/8 wrench extension, and was easily able to move that sucker from right to left, and then you can lift the lid a few millimeters, remove the wrench, (which if you go further will snarl in the tail) and hey presto............!!!! My cable bolt was loose, and I re-attached the cable. There is another bolt below at 90 degrees to the top one, and that is where you can attach another emergency cable. My car did not have this second cable, so I guess the factory might have known the fix.
Thanks to all of you. This is a great forum, with a great bunch of folks.
I do understand that this is a security issue, but you cannot raise the tail unless you have the keys, so it should not be a problem.
