I heard some goofball made it with a roll of electrical tape and a magic marker.
As a TV editor, I've had a whole bunch of weird looking stuff on my hood....but nothing like this....but if you & simon like it - go for it. hope price was minimal!!

Beautiful! Is that a real one? Does it have a Porsche part number cast into the rear? Where can I get one?
I have one of these (just seemed appropriate ), but haven't installed it yet so I can't speak to the fitment issue. Part number on the back is 993 559 211 00 and I bought it here.
I tell you what Eric, if you can furnish me with the porsche part number that will result in the Porsche factory being able to supply (or even acknowledge) a silver hood crest I will donate $500 to a charity of you choice, OK?
Since he's posted on other threads since you posted this I'd say the answer is that no porsche part number exists. If I was selling stuff as "porsche original" that wasn't I'd stay quiet too. There's likely to be a lot of pissed off customers.
^^ Oh, I know it will look great once installed. Right now the crest is the only thing gold on the entire car. Everything else is either black or silver. Kind of looks like it was a special order for Al Davis. Actually the seat belts are red but I'll probably change those out this winter. BTW, this new crest of mine isn't matte. It's full shiny and of a very high quality.

That was the vendor for the group buy last year. It was $100 plus $5 shipping, iirc. It's crazy that the prices went up so much everywhere.

I'm guessing that it's pretty much understood that there is no "genuine" silver crest. I think what the 'confusion' was about is that there are "real" silver crests (properly refinished from the OEM gold crests) and "fake" silver crests (butcher jobs and/or from fake OEM gold crests.)
fwiw, here's an interesting website about how OEM crests are refinished properly. Good resource for collectors and restorers. Check out some of the vintage badges on that website from other auto manufacturers, some are really beautiful. http://enamel-auto-badge-repair.com....n_process.html

That may be the case but there is no mistaking the post below. The crests are being sold as a genuine Porsche product. If true he can easily clear it up and get a few dollars for his favorite charity in the process.

We have had access to authentic Porsche hood crests in silver in very limited numbers over the years. There are plenty of knock offs around online if you search, and if you find one for $100 or so, it's either very old, or a fake.
