Kelley Blue Book Actually Re-Valued
#31
HUH,
"Agreed Value of $ 52,000 for my 98 C2S", that is in Canada, the prices for any Porsche 993 is still high here in Alberta and on the West Coast as well, I cannot understand the discrepency ( sorry no spellcheck)?
What's happening that the values are dropping so dramatically in the US? Just want to know... maybe that's why I now see many 993s here, eh! (sorry I had to do it) It may have to do with the recent dropping of the value of the US greenback and these cars are now flooding elsewhere!!! I see some European owners popping up on our Rennlist...

yes, pretty selective upgrading on the pricing. 97 C2S with 36000 miles and excellent condition. private sale. not very realistic and very hard to understnad considering what has been posted on some of the other pricing.
Condition Value
Excellent
$24,850
Good
$24,000
Fair
$22,500

That doesn't even come close to making sense. They obviously missed some updating. Maybe send them a short message to bring it to their attention.

Has anyone gotten agreed value coverage on a 993 that is used as a "daily driver"?

funny, my 993 turbo is over-valued on KBB
$61K
Not at all a realistic price, even 3 years ago... they drop like a rock as the miles go up.
At least they are trying. Bottom line is that these cars are not "normal" and conventional tools like NADA and KBB can't track them

So, what's the 'smart' path for insurance value? I know there's been many threads on this in the past but nothing seems definitive. It seems to me that all 'normal' auto policies on these cars will go by KBB values or something equivalent, but wouldn't getting a private appraisal(s) by your shop or some other 'authority' and having it attached to your insurance files be sufficient? I'm asking because I'm going through the excercise of getting quotes for the '98 S Cab and since there is only one other of the 5 that I have information on, it's been a real slogfest trying to establish value and it makes me wonder if it's really worth it.

Just getting an estimate of value will not protect you in Mass....I had to get a full appraisal from a car appraisal company and then get stated value insurance.

Interesting ... although I though that KBB values were based on actual market data from auctions and dealer sales?

It may be true but KBB needed more realistic data obviously. Lord knows where they got their original figures. Even at auctions how many are going through in the teens? My long term 'pushing' at least got them to take a new look apparently. I kept asking them over and over again, "how can serious car buyers take their site seriously when the 993 prices are way off base, not even close?" A simple look at Autotrader, Cars.com, Ebay would convince anyone that these cars don't sell in the teens unless beaten, have title issues, or just in real rough shape. As I said before, they listened. Good for them, and us. From what many have posted here the 'new' values are very mileage oriented however. Their values are still a disservice to many owners here that have higher mileage cars that have maintained them in 'very good' condition. Can't win them all but it was a nice start.
