I say good for them! I can think of no greater compliment to the original designer than to drive these cars an much as possible, and whenever possible. If that means that you have to occasionally transport something in them, so much the better.
Nothing better than an early 911 on chains heading up the pass with skis on the roof. Or running the Dakar.
God forbid there's a stonechip...
PS - and let's not assume that they're not passionate. Anyone that drives an old Porsche as a daily driver (which would land someone in exactly the predicament illustrated in the initial photo), is by definition, passionate.

In Denmark, where I am originally from, vehicles for private use are subject to 180% excise tax... plus 25% VAT. In other words, cars are bloody expensive!
However, vehicles for commercial use are taxed differently and thus people sometimes find very creative ways of getting themselves a cool set of wheels on a budget.
Years ago, some bright spark realized that a car qualifies for the commercial use taxation if it is a pick-up, i.e. if it has a platform for carrying cargo, which is separated from the cabin.

My dad had a 67 911s-with a factory roof rack. One day he brought home for me a Honda xr75-motorcycle -strapped to the roof. That was quite a sight. My first motocross. More were to follow-just not on his roof.
