Evora
This morning I got a great two hour ride in the not quite yet available Lotus Evora -- what a great car this is!!!
A lot more refined than the Elise with an awesome driving position despite the steering wheel being on the wrong side
The car performed well in Tokyo traffic and even better at speed on our way to the Mt Fuji area.
Awesome car indeed!!!

Despite being pretty in person, it didn't look like much when you looked at it on paper in the car mags. Good to hear it stacked up well.
I've been coveting an Elise for a couple of years but don't want to give up the 993 to make the move...

Actually, the Evora is pretty available I think. The dealer down the street from me (Fox Valley) has at least two (last I checked). C&D really hated this car, and I probably would too. Not lightweight (same weight as 993) and low on power (less than a 993!!). Skip. But wow, it does look gorgeous.
Another skip. My wife had an Elise for a couple years and just sold it to buy a race car. IMHO the 993 was simply a much better all-around car. Granted, the Elise was spectacular on the track (although not much faster, if at all) but getting to the track and around town, the Elise was spectacularly awful. Ride quality is rubbish, no storage, tonka toy interior, always hot and poor A/C, everything squeaks, etc. Keep the 993.

the clouds in the background look like typical Suzuka area summer weather.
EVO magazine rated the Evora as their 2009 COTY, but they might have been a tad biased.

The Evora is readily available. Lake Forest Sports Cars (LFSC) has them. Its a gorgeous machine. I fit with plenty of room in the driver's seat, and I'm 6'4". Here's the problem, at least for me: there is no dead pedal; no where to put my left foot except in front of the pedals. Argh. A simple, yet fatal oversight, as far as I am concerned. This was also noted by several of the car mags.

the car looks nice and i bet handles pretty well. but it's absurdly underpowered especially when you consider the price of $85K -you can get a lot of other nice cars for that money that has more "go" in it. i think this is where the problem lies. i'm a lotus fan, had a the espritv8 and currently and exige S, but this car is not something i would consider given the price. maybe 60-65K

Yikes, I had no idea it was that pricey. In this case, perhaps there are better alternatives.

I was fortunate to drive an Evora a couple of months back and it was the ride quality that surprised me the most - very supple (on Michigan's crappy roads) yet totally tied down in the corners. Lotus nailed the chassis on this one. As mentioned though - they are kind of pricey and those options soon add up.

Saw one for sale at Los Gatos LC (formerly SVA) so they're definitely out there. Great looking car and if previous Loti are any guide probably available at 50% of list when 2 years old.
