Unless you’re planning on showing the car in full concours, leave it on. Take the wheels off and clean the wheel wells, brake calipers and back of the wheels. This will present the car well when it’s on the ground.

As Andreas pointed out, it is a long and painful process to get all the cosmoline off the suspension, engine and the bottom of the car.

You can check with a detailer in your area but it will probably cost a lot, if you can find someone that will do it.

Holy crap! That car is amazing.

This reminds me of a spread in (I think) 911&Porsche World a few years back, guy had an old 356 (maybe it was a Speedster), the undercarriage and engine were every bit as as detailed as Andreas' car, but the top of the car was completely unrestored and had the patina of age to it, crazing in the paint, worn chrome, it was really pretty cool to look at.

Although my efforts pale in comparison, it was all worth it when I had an "off" at Road Atlanta. The curbing sent me airborn for a moment and those behind me said "the underside of your car is really clean" Dusted off, fixed bent rim and back at it.

Made it all worth while.

Wow Andreas. Even inside the exhaust tip. You must feel terrible starting the engine let alone drive it anywhere. I take my hat off to your dedication.
That car would have pride of place in my living room (on stands), next to my grand piano.

The car gets driven and looks nowhere near as clean underneath these days. Apart from my typical winter maintenance, I did no cleaning underneath the car whatsoever this time. But cleaning it this winter should be easier.
