Default Power seat switches - how to remove?

Passenger side has partial power for tilting the lower cushion but the switches only work intermittently. No problems with stuff in the tracks or cables etc.

Was able to remove the switch assembly easily enough but I don't know how to remove the switch assembly from the seat so I can try cleaning contacts etc.

Any info on how to do this is much appreciated. Btw, I was able to get the seat motors to operate properly with both switches periodically while messing with them, so its definitely a switch related issue. Maybe just dust and junk got in there due to infrequent use?

Not one of Porsche's finer designs. You must either reach under the seat and unplug and snake the wiring harness through the seat (you'll need to snip some zip ties) or else cut or unsolder the wires at the switch.

Cheers,

Even with it still plugged in, you should have enough room to disassemble the switch and clean the innards. Important warning: Disassemble over a bowl or towel or something - those springs and little ball bearings move quickly.

If you do lose any of the BBs, I found that Ace Hardware was able to give me replacements.

Just tackled this job last weekend, since forward/reverse was working intermittently. I opted for a new switch - definitely have to remove seat bolts (6 total) and tilt whole seat rearward to work underneath the seat. Hex socket on a socket wrench is a necessity & don't be surprised if you reshape the heads of a few of the bolts enough to replace (inexpensive). After that, fairly straight forward to remove/install - just takes patience following wiring plan and some dexterity in dealing with tight spaces. Seat now works flawlessly.

I think I'll try disassembly inside a plastic bag to catch the springs etc. and not remove the seat at this point. This should be a fun sunday project. Just need some instruction on how to pull the switch apart. Any tips on this?

Here's a great DIY from the 964 forum which I followed a few years ago and it did the trick!

One can often successfully R&R these switches by blasting them in situ with a good contact cleaner: insert the small tube into the edges around the switch and spray while working the switch.
If a proper contact cleaner is not within reach, even a shot of WD-40 will do .... saves chasing springs & ***** around the floor.

Sounds like a good idea - I just cleaned the innards with a little contact cleaner and they've been good for three years - imagine just shooting some of the juice in there woulda worked too...

thanks to the search and this forum i was able to get the seat adjustment functioning again.
i sprayed a good amount of WD-40 into the switches and everything was good again.
i love this forum......

Just followed these great instructions and now have both swithes on passenger side working perfectly. Didn't have to remove any seat bolts either. There was just enough wires to pull the switch out enough. You just need a lot of patience with those little silver ***** and springs aaarrrgggggh!!!!!!

Re my last post on this. Was talking to the mechanic about getting it back together and the little silver ***** and springs....pretty simple fix. Just a dab of grease on each one and this holds them in place while you put the casing back together!

I just did this on my drivers seat which had one switch would not move down - up was fine - just sprayed WD40 into the switch 3 or 4 times, waiting 5 minutes between sprays while activating the switch and it eventually worked. No disassembly if the switch - just spray WD40 as per the picture. Done! Thanks to all those before who contributed here.

Yes indeed! Worked for me using WD-40 Contact Cleaner.

Awesome.

The can has lots left so I am wandering the house looking for more opportunities to apply it.

Does anyone have a spare ball bearing? In my case, I was not ready to open the switch, thought I was just removing it from the second housing/cover but it popped open. Of course I cannot find 1 ball. I got all 4 springs, the gold rod and 3 of the *****.
